Passage to Freedom With your Suit partner, discuss questions 1-7 on page 66 of your text. You may look back in your text if you need to. When you're finished begin thinking about the following questions. What challenge did the main character face? Where did the challenge take place? In what ways does the main character show change? What do you think the main character learns from his experience?

A Mother’s Courage • With your suit partner, read pages 68-71 from your text using the skills mentions in the yellow column on the left of page 68. When you are finished discuss these questions with your partner. Why do you think Monique doesn’t talk about her feelings. Compare and contrast the stories about Monique’s family and the Sugihara Family. What happened to Monique’s aunt and cousin after her uncle Jacques was shot by the Nazis? What did Monique’s mother do to make sure that her children would survive. What helped Monique and her parents survive?
