  1. The Man, Sir James Dyson The man behind one of Design Icons of the 21st Century Sir James Dyson, a British inventor, industrial designer and founder of the Dyson Company. He is best known as the inventor of the Dual Cyclone bag less vacuum cleaner one of his early designs, which works on the principle of cyclonic separation.

  2. Sir Dyson’s Views “For me, design is about how something works, not about what it looks like. It's what's inside that counts. Good design solves problems and changes something for the better. Aesthetics should be a by-product of the design, not the other way around.” - Sir James Dyson He built 5,127 prototypes before his Dual Cyclone went into production.

  3. Philosophy “The look of our vacuum cleaners derives solely from their function and ease of use. Appearance alone does not make a good product. I am happy when someone does not like the colour of a Dyson vacuum cleaner because it proves the person bought it because of its performance, not its looks. I am not immune to beautifully designed objects, but I feel that you quickly come to hate a styled design that is not up to the job, but fall in love with an unstyled product that works well.” - Sir James Dyson

  4. Designs and Inventions In the 1970s James Dyson came up the idea of using cyclonic separation in a vacuum cleaner that would not lose suction if it picked up dirt. He was frustrated that dust kept clogging the bag and so it lost suction. James Dyson first invented cyclone technology for vacuum cleaners 30 years ago. 5. Engineering and Prototyping Engineering the Dyson way• “Steal” ideas from other applications• Make rough physical prototypes quickly• Math models are no substitute for a lot of tests Prototypes are used by Dyson not just to show the overall form of the product, but how the system and the application of such technologies that have been invented by James Dyson himself are included within the products design.

  6. Testing Failure Most people think testing is all about durability and reliability. Of course that's a big part of it. But before that happens - before you even have something to beat the hell out of - you need an idea that work. Dyson engineers get those ideas often by trying the ridiculous. Most of the time it ends in failure. That's good. Failure sparks thinking and the extraordinary. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OWYrp204xT4

  7. 21st Century Designs Air Blade - "You put your hands under other dryers, rub them a bit, then give up and wipe your hands on your trousers. It’s something that’s always annoyed me.” Literally scraping water from hands with a 400mph sheet of air.  It takes ten seconds and the air used to dry hands is first purified using a HEPA filter.  The airflow is created by the Dyson digital motor, a new type of high-speed motor developed by Dyson engineers.

  8. Air Multiplier - “Engineers look for improvement. 30 years ago, we began developing cyclone vacuum technology. More recently, hand dryers using high-pressure sheets of air instead of heat. Now our attention has turned to fans.”- James Dyson Blades cause buffeting. That’s always been the problem with conventional electric fans. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bdj4AZ28TQw

  9. Hot + Cool Fast, even room heating.High velocity air to cool. In winter, the Dyson Hot + Cool fan heater provides long-range heat projection. In summer it has powerful airflow and air velocity to cool you effectively. There are no blades – just an uninterrupted stream of smooth air. Most conventional heaters can’t be tilted to direct warm air where you want for personal heating
