  15. Sig Fig Rules

  16. How many sig figs? • 34.500 s(3 sig figs) • 0.0087 g(2 sig figs) • 3507 m(4 sig figs) • 1500 mL (2 sig figs) • 200078 km (6 sig figs)

  17. Multiplication and Division • Idea is to not add any sig figs that we didn’t already have. • Mult. And Div. Rule: The answer must have the same amount of sig figs as the least accurate measurement (the one with the least amount of sig figs) • Ex. 10.4 x 4.1 x 00.03963 = 1.7 3 sig figs 2 sig figs 4 sig figs 4.1 is our least accurate measurement with only 2 sig figs; therefore, our answer will only have 2 sig figs as well.

  18. Mult. and Div. Practice Calculator Says Answer • 3.24 mx 7.0 m = 22.68 23 m2 • 100.0 g ÷ 23.7 cm3= 4.21909283 4.22 g/cm3 • 0.02 cm x 2.371 cm =0.04742 0.05 cm2 • 710 m ÷ 3.0 s =236.66… 240 m/s • 1818.2 lb x 3.23 ft =5872.786 5870 lb•ft • 10.030 g ÷ 2.87 mL= 3.49477… 3.50 g/mL

  19. Density

  20. Does a bowling ball float in water? • https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oKqJ3q7b1O8 • This is a cool demonstration and good explanation of density
