  2. What is a gang? • A group of associating individuals who engage in violent or destructive forms of illegal behavior, for the same cause. • Gangs have identifiable leadership, and assume control over a territory or community.

  3. How many gangs are there? • According to the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention there are 29,400 gangs in the United States of Amercia. • These 29,400 gangs combine to have a total 756,000 members age 17 and younger.

  4. What are some gangs you know of? • Bloods • Crips • MS 13 • Cartels • Mafia • Vice Lords • Disciples • Latin Kings

  11. What are some ways you can avoid gang involvement? • Sports • Hobbies • Job • Church • Volunteer work • Mentoring programs • ANYTHING!

What are methods to avoid conflict? • Avoiding eye contact • Knowing the gangs in your area • Be conscious of the colors you wear • Do not claim a gang or throw up any gang signs • Do not respond when provoked • Respectfully decline if asked to join • Stress the importance of where you have to go if pressured to go somewhere with a gang

  13. Can you get out of a gang? • Yes, many gang members are granted exodus if they are expecting a child. • Others may be jumped out which can result in serious injuries and even death. *The same method can be used against members who go against the gangs beliefs or instruction.
