  2. How do plants help provide us with clean air? Plants breathe in Carbon dioxide (CO2) and out Oxygen (O2). Plants filter the air for us and provide us with the oxygen we need to breathe.

  3. True or False? Indoor air can be as bad or worse for you than outdoor air. True: Since buildings are built tighter (more energy efficient) these days, pollutants can become trapped inside.

  4. Which causes more air pollution. cars or factories? True: 60% of our air pollution comes from the cars we drive.

  5. What does an anemometer do? Measures wind speed.

  6. What does the ozone layer do? The ozone layer is found in the upper atmosphere (stratosphere) and it filters out harmful ultraviolet rays

  7. What does AQI stand for?Hint: An AQI is like a weather forecast that we check to see how much air pollution is expected today. Air Quality Index

  8. Daily Double

  9. What do the Initials CFC stand for?Hint: This is the chemical that tears apart ozone in the atmosphere and creates the “hole in the ozone layer”. Chloro-fluoro-carbon

  10. What does IAQ stand for?Hint: With IAQ you are concerned with mold, radon, and second hand smoke Indoor Air Quality

  11. What do the initials EPA stand for?Hint: This is the government agency that protects human health and the environment. Environmental Protection Agency

  12. If I told you that the wind was blowing 25mph, what does the mph stand for? Miles per hour

  13. What element is most common in the air we breathe? Nitrogen 78% Nitrogen 20.8% Oxygen 1% other stuff 0.2% Carbon Dioxide

  14. What is the chemical that we need to breathe from the air? Oxygen (O2)

  15. What is the chemical protects us from the sun? Ozone(O3)

  16. What naturally occurring radioactive gas is found underground that can leak into your house and cause health problems? Radon

  17. True or False: Carbon monoxide is not harmful. False

  18. Daily Double

  19. What is the result when water droplets in the air combine with air pollutants (like ozone)? Smog

  20. What term do we use for the phenomenon where CO2, methane, and other gases trap more than normal amounts of heat inside the earth’s atmosphere. Global Warming

  21. What chemical is linked to the hole in the Ozone Layer. CFCs (chlorofluorocarbons)

  22. Where do excess greenhouse gases that cause global warming come from?

  23. How does ozone get into the troposphere (ground level)? We call this “bad ozone.” Burning fossil fuels: automobiles, power plants, refineries

  24. True or False: Oxygen gets to the cells in your body by absorbing through your skin. False: Air, containing oxygen, is inhaled through the mouth and nose. The air travels to the lungs and goes through a network of branches. The oxygen is absorbed into the blood stream and travels to all parts of the body. All other air components (CO2, Nitrogen, etc) are exhaled.

  25. Why is carbon monoxide harmful to humans? CO combines strongly with red blood cells preventing them from carrying Oxygen to your body

  26. About how many times a day do you take a breath? 22,000 respirations/day

  27. Would it be healthy for humans to totally get rid of the earth’s greenhouse effect? No! The greenhouse effect keeps the earth at livable temperatures

  28. Humans breathe from this layer of the atmosphere. Troposphere

  29. What is the name of Sponge Bob’s best-friend? And what is he? Patrick the starfish!

  30. What is Tony Hawk’s occupation? Skateboarding

  31. What is the Kansas State Tree? Cottonwood

  32. What is the name of the 4th Harry Potter Book? Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

  33. In the movie The Incredibles, what are the super powers of each family member? Dad/Mr Incredible – Strength Mom/Elastigirl – Stretchy Limbs Violet – Invisibility & Force Fields Dash – Speed Jack Jack – Fire???
