  2. Earthquake in Japan • The Earthquake was a 8.9 on the Richter scale. • The earthquake occurred at 05:46:23 on March 11, 2011.

  3. What is an Earthquake? • The Japan is located in an area where several continental and oceanic plates meet. This is the cause of frequent earthquakes and the presence of many hot springs across Japan. If earthquakes occur below or close to the ocean, they may trigger tidal waves or tsunami.

  4. What is an Earthquake? • The surface where the plates slip is called the fault or fault plain. • The location below the ocean’s surface is where the earthquake is caused is the hypocenter, the location above the on the earth’s surface is the epicenter.

  5. Earthquakes :D • Sometimes the earthquake will have a fore shock, these are smaller earthquakes that happen in the same place as the larger one that follows.

  6. Scientist and Earthquakes • Scientist can’t tell if the earthquake is a fore shock until the larger earthquake has happened.

  7. After the Earthquake • More than a week after the earthquake, manufacturers in Japan, a key producers of parts used in many phones, are struggling to get back up to speed as factories struggle with power cuts.

  8. After the Earthquake • The earthquake and the tsunami cost Japan close to $309 billion. • The earthquake have caused a lot damage to Japan and destroyed tons of peoples houses • Also they have lost half of Japan’s population.
