So what is “Spellementary”? • Spelling assistant software that assists users in finding the word that they are looking to spell • Provides a dictionary definition to words in the “search results” lists so that the user can check a word’s meaning to be sure they have the correct word • Provides audio output so that the user can check a word’s sound, reassuring them that they have the correct word • Allows the user to look up the meaning of words whilst researching

  3. How does it work? • Utilises 2 key searching methods: • Contains Search Phrase • Contains Search Letters

Contains Search Phrase • Allows the user to type in a “part” to the word that they are looking for e.g. In the word bureaucratically, the user may recognised the sound/pattern “crat”, so the user would type “crat” into the search • The search results will show all words that contain the “part” within their spellings e.g. aristocrat, bureaucratically, crate

Contains Search Letters • Allows the user to type in the “Letters” to the word that they are looking for e.g. In the word onomatopoeia, the user may recognised the letters “n” “mat” “p”, so the user would type “nmatp” into the search • The search results will show all words that contain the “nmatp” within their spellings e.g. cinematography, onomatopoeia,

Filters • To narrow down the search results, filters are available: • Start – this allows the user to type, or select from the list, the starting letter or letters • End – this allows the user to type, or select from the list, the ending letter or letters. The list includes some commonly confused endings and showing the different possible endings

  7. If too many words appear in the search results lists, filters can be applied to narrow down the results

  8. Definition & Audio • To assist in reassuring that the user has the correct word, they can see a full dictionary definition • There is also audio output available for many of the words, using a real voice, to again reassure that the user has selected the correct word

  9. Favourites & Custom Dictionary • A list of favourite words can be easily stored and accessed for commonly used words • Words and definitions can be added
