5 Types of Opinion Writing • Column • These are the opinion of someone paid on staff. • They usually have a theme – sports, entertainment, gossip, politics, gardening and so on.
5 Types of Opinion Writing • Column • Almost always run with a photo of the author; uses the “I”. • Are named columns because of the shape they take. • The paper does not claim ownership of the opinion.
5 Types of Opinion Writing • Editorial • Presents the opinion of the entire staff. • Never has a name attached. • Written with “we” pronouns.
5 Types of Opinion Writing • Editorial Cartoons • Give a visual opinion. • Usually exaggerates the subject to prove a point.
