Mary Rowlandson Elementary School Our mission is to educate and enable all students to reach their greatest academic, social and emotional potential in a safe environment where excellence and commitment are both fostered and valued throughout the entire community.

Mary Rowlandson Elementary School Goal # 2 To cultivate and foster a collaborative relationship between the school and the community through interactive participation Goal # 3 To develop a school culture in which each student’s academic, social, and emotional experiences assure them a seamless transition as they move from one grade level to the next as well as from elementary to middle to high school.

Mary Rowlandson Elementary School • Textbooks (+$1,885) • Dictionaries for grades 3-5 need replacement • Big books, trade books, additional Scott Foresman reading book • Instructional Supplies (+$1,350) • Supporting academic instruction in all content areas and specialty areas for grades K-5
Mary Rowlandson Elementary School • Technology (+$5,700) • Includes a Poster Maker to be used by MRE and BMS • Library (+$2,200) • Professional Development (+$3,200) • Includes funds for a math consultant to work with teachers

Mary Rowlandson Elementary School FY 08 Budget Initiatives • Strong focus on strengthening math instruction, improving math skills and increasing MCAS math scores. A .5 Remedial Math Teacher and funding professional development including a math consultant to work with staff is being requested. • Integrating technology in all content and specialty areas by providing additional software and professional development for staff. • Continue to build the collection in the school library • School security and safety
Mary Rowlandson Elementary School Summarize FY 07 New Initiatives Health • The district health curriculum being implemented in grades K-5 is leaving students with a wealth of practical knowledge to live healthy, safe lives. Informal feedback from parents has been very positive.
Mary Rowlandson Elementary School Science and Engineering • Science and Engineering for fifth grade students has been a very successful endeavor. Next year’s sixth graders will have a basic understanding of the concepts and expectations of the 6-8 program strengthening the overall skills developed in this area.
Mary Rowlandson Elementary School Instructional Coaches • MRE used the Instructional Coaches stipend to establish what is proving to be a valuable vertical team for grades 1-5. Although, the number one focus is math, it provides an opportunity for discussion of all areas of the school day as well as improves communication between grade levels.
Mary Rowlandson Elementary School Conclusion The Mary Rowlandson Elementary School budget strives to support a culture that fosters academic growth, strengthens social and emotional development of children and builds continued professional development for staff to become life-long learners. It addresses a plan to improve communication from grade level to grade level, between the elementary and middle schools and with parents and community members. The proposed budget also stresses the importance of a safe and secure environment for all.
