  1. Duplex Duplex Steel: Steel: A Are there Perfect Corrosion Resistance? re there Perfect Corrosion Resistance? Duplex stainless steels are extremely corrosion resistant, work hardenable alloys. Their microstructures consist of a mixture of austenite and ferrite phases. As a result, duplex stainless steels display properties characteristic of both austenitic and ferritic stainless steels. This combination of properties can mean some compromise when compared with pure austenitic and pure ferritic grades. Duplex stainless steels are in most cases, tougher than ferritic stainless steels. Strengths of duplex stainless steels can in some cases be double that for austenitic stainless steels. Whilst duplex stainless steels are considered resistant to stress corrosion cracking, they are not as resistant to this form of attack as ferritic stainless

  2. steels. However, the corrosion resistance of the least resistant duplex stainless steels is greater than that for the most commonly used grades of stainless steels, i.e. 304 and 316. Duplex steels are also magnetic, a property that can be used to easily differentiate them from common austenitic grades of stainless. Characteristics of Duplex Stainless Steel: Strength: Duplex Stainless Steel is about double as strong as systematic austenitic or ferritic stainless steel. Toughness and ductility:

  3. Duplex Stainless Steel has suggestively better toughness and ductility than ferritic grades; though they do not reach the excellent value of authentic grades. Corrosion Resistance: As with all stainless steel, corrosion resistance is determined by mostly on the composition of the stainless steel. For chloride fighting and fracture corrosion resistance, their chromium, molybdenum and nitrogen gratified are most important. Duplex stainless steel grades have a range of corrosion resistance, comparable to the range for authentic stainless steel, i.e. from Type 304 or 316 to 6% molybdenum Stainless Steel. Stress Corrosion cracking resistance: Duplex Stainless Steel shows very good stress corrosion extremely resistance, an assets they have “organic” from the ferritic side. Stress Corrosion Cracking can be a problematic under certain circumstances for standard authentics such as Types 304 and 316.
