About Cosylab • Headquarters in Ljubljana, Slovenia • Established in 2001 • Spin-off of the Jozef Stefan Institute • R&D focus • Currently, Cosylab has 13 full-time and 15 half-time employees • Areas of expertise: • Distributed control systems (ACS, EPICS, …) • Accelerators, astronomy instrumentation, synchrotron beamlines • Telecommunications • Geographical Information Systems (GIS) • Embedded electronics for automotive industry ACS Workshop 2005

Involvement in ACS Development • Control system for the ANKA synchrotron (1996-2000) • Developed by Mark Pleško and his students • Evolved into ACS • Cooperation with ESO since 2000 • Re-use and extension of the ANKA CS’s concepts (device/property/characteristic model, CORBA middleware, Java GUI, …) • ACS work in the past: • Container/component model (MACI) • Device/property/characteristic model (BACI) • Logging subsystem • … ACS Workshop 2005

Example:The ANKA Control System Upgrade • Angströmquelle Karlsruhe synchrotron light source • Currently using: ACS 1.1 • Upgrading to: ACS 4.1 • Technological highlights of the upgrade: • Windows remains the platform on the server-side • Use of Java components(migrating away from C++) • Integration with the LonWorks fieldbus(via Java Native Interface) ACS Workshop 2005
