Why do students go to college and university to study? Think about it and provide some answers to this question. Let me continue. High scores, good grades, and certificates can easily be mistaken to be the main
reasons for going to school to study. The truth is, high scores, good grades and certificates are means to an end but not the end in themselves. Do you understand? The true end goals for knowledge acquisition are: 1. Self-refinement. And 2. Provision of solutions to mankind’s problems. Academic success must possess three main attributes. First, the right selection of study program, course or major, which must be in accordance with the student’s natural endowments (talents). Second, an appreciable comprehension of the chosen program, course or major. Third, the wise application of acquired knowledge for self- improvement and provision of solutions to mankind’s problems. These three attributes make up what is termed true academic success. This is the correct and main focus for knowledge acquisition whether formally or informally. Discoveries, inventions and positive generational transformations can never be achieved without true academic success. High scores, good grades, and certificates are indicators of academic excellence. They facilitate the attainment of academic success. B) Academic Endeavors and Purpose Fulfilment Everyone on this planet has a divine assignment to fulfill. No individual can experience academic satisfaction when his academic endeavors are not connected to his divine assignment (destined
purpose). Put differently, whenever an individual chooses his study program and profession in line with his destined purpose, it leads to academic satisfaction. Your place of divine assignment is where you work passionately. This is where you flow naturally, work long hours and have no reason to complain. It is a channel for you to give to humanity. D) Fundamental Qualities for Academic Success Academic excellence and success both require certain foundational qualities. These unfailing fundamental qualities enable students who possess them to excel in most things they do, articulate with clarity and become distinguished. Below are the qualities every student need to achieve academic success: 1) Teachability No individual knows everything at any point in time not even in a single field. There is a need for humility in the process of knowledge acquisition. This is because the “I know it all” disposition is self- limiting and can lead to stagnation. You have to be willing to learn from those who are better-informed than you in any particular area of knowledge. If you will make progress in your academic pursuit and other aspects of life, you must remain teachable. 2) Command of Language Some common academic problems such as lack of clarity in communication, lack of understanding of course materials and exam questions can all be solved by having a good command of the language of instruction. An appreciable understanding of a language is a quality that can easily distinguish a student from others. The following are things you can do to improve your command of a language: a) Study grammar and phonetics of the language.
b) Increase your vocabulary, which can be achieved by reading newspapers, magazines, novels, and other books. 3) Logical Reasoning and Power of Imagination Sensible argument, solving problems, making sound judgment, planning and foresight require logical reasoning and power of imagination. Students will do better if they can learn how to apply the above-mentioned capabilities. 4) Sourcing for Information and Conducting Research These two qualities are important for achieving academic excellence and success. Information sourcing is a capability that enables students to find answers to a lot of academic problems. Most of the problems we face today have their solutions written in journals, manuals, how- to-do information products and books around the world. Research and information sourcing are great indicators of academic excellence. The level of development in a country is partly a reflection of the level of research being conducted in that country or a partner country. Students are admonished to take a special interest in research early in life. For Related Articles Visit http://www.successpathsolutions.com
5) Self-Discovery This has to do with an individual understanding his true situation in every aspect of life. No one can make considerable progress in any area of his life without self-discovery in that particular area. Let me use communication skill to explain self-discovery. If a student is not a good communicator and does not realize or acknowledge it, this lack of acceptance of his true situation will make it very difficult for him to make a serious effort toward becoming a good communicator. Students should look inward and identify areas where they need to make improvement. The first step to solving a problem is acknowledging the existence of that problem. 6) Considerable Knowledge of Mathematics Mathematics is a subject that has very wide application. It will be helpful for all students to take a special interest in mathematics early in life. Some students have the wrong notion that mathematics is difficult to understand. I think differently about this. I strongly believe that every student can attain a reasonable knowledge of mathematics. You should use more than one well-written textbooks and put in more effort toward understanding the basic underlying principles in this subject. Considerable knowledge of mathematics will facilitate your comprehension of some subjects and help you accomplish many other things in life.

7) Computer Science and Internet Usage If you as a student will go far and eventually attain academic success, do not neglect the use of the computer systems and the internet. Students are encouraged to acquire the necessary skills, which will enable them to take ample advantage of the opportunities associated with this technology. The importance of computer systems and the internet cannot be over- emphasized in this age of information revolution. This technology has brought information closer to many students and teachers by eliminating the distance that was hitherto a big barrier to information sourcing. 8) General Awareness The quality of your life and things accomplished are a function of the amount of knowledge acquired and wisely applied. Hence, if you desire success in life including academic success reach out for quality knowledge. Students can do the following to broaden their horizon: read books, newspapers, magazines, watch educational videos, TV news, and documentaries, play helpful games, and listen to local and international radio stations. 9) Wisdom and Trust in God It is important for students to understand that academic success can never be achieved without wisdom. All the knowledge you acquire both formally and informally will be useless if it is not applied wisely
to improve your life and solve mankind’s problems. Wisdom delivers, elevates, and creates opportunities where there is despair. I encourage students to look up to their creator for direction. God Almighty knows everything about you and His mind for you is that you succeed. He knows your purpose here on earth and He can guide you through your success path to the place of fulfillment.
