How Carlisle is fairing compared to elsewhere in Cumbria • The claimant count for Cumbria actually fell by 110 between March and April 2009 to 8,086 • The count fell in all districts except Carlisle (+70) and Eden (+8) • Carlisle now has the highest number of unemployed (2,225) and the highest % of unemployed (3.5%) • Ratio of claimants to vacancies varies significantly between districts from Carlisle (13.40) and Copeland (11.05) to South Lakeland (1.98) and Eden (1.94)
