  2. When did it Start? • Right after the British ended the slave trade in 1807. • They started settling into Nigeria then but it took a while for change to happen.

  3. Which tribes were colonized? • Ibo • Yoruba • Awori • Oworo • Ife • Hausa • And More!

  4. Effect of Tribes • They became way more modernized. • Lost some of their traditional values • Destroyed their culture.

  5. Overall Effect On Nigeria • Taught some Nigerians to speak English • Built schools!! • Helped build up natural recourses like oil. • The british converted nigerians to christianity • Increased… • Health • Agriculture • Education

  6. Recovery • Lagos Nigeria's formal capital, gained independence first in 1914. • Nigeria’s capital is now Abuja • All of Nigeria gained independence in October 1960

  7. Overall Effect on nigeria Cont. • They gave Nigeria its name

  8. Recovery • Nigeria does still have its villages and medicine men. • There are more westernized places with big buildings, wooden houses, restaurants and roads.
