  2. City & Guilds Skills for Life awards • • City & Guilds Certificate in ESOL Skills for Life • City & Guilds Certificate in Adult Literacy and Adult Numeracy

  3. Levels and modes • City & Guilds is offering awards at the following levels: • Entry 1: all modes • Entry 2: all modes • Entry 3: all modes • Level 1: all modes; reading by National Test • Level 2: all modes; reading by National Test

  4. Modes and certification • All modes (Reading, Writing, Speaking & Listening) • Single mode assessment available to accommodate “spiky profiles” • Certificate awarded at level of lowest unit attained

  5. Stand alone qualifications • City & Guilds has applied to QCA to offer awards at the following levels: • Entry 1: Speaking and Listening • Entry 2: Speaking and Listening • Entry 3: Speaking and Listening • Level 1: Speaking and Listening • Level 2: Speaking and Listening

  6. How will the new awards be assessed? Entry 1, 2 and 3 will be assessed by assignment. The assignment will be set by City & Guilds and marked by the centre • Speaking and listening, and writing modes using portfolio evidence based on activities suggested by City & Guilds Level 1 and 2 will be assessed using a combination of assessment methods • Reading mode will be assessed using the National Test in Adult Literacy

  7. Assessment at Entry Level • City & Guilds set assignments and recording documents • one assignment covers all the assessment requirements for that level; single mode assessments are also available • choice of 4 available at each level • series of linked activities completed in normal classroom situation • administered by centre when learner is ready • time bound, but flexible assessment • marked by assessor, internally and externally verified

  8. Assessment at Entry Level (Cont’d) • City & Guilds also offers single mode assessment at • Entry 1 • Entry 2 • Entry 3 • This supports the spiky profile and the separately accredited Speaking and Listening awards

  9. National Literacy Tests • Levels 1 and 2 – Reading mode only • 40-item multiple choice test • Available monthly • On-line testing (on demand)

  10. Are there any awards for centre staff wishing to deliver the ESOL awards? Level 4 Certificate for Adult ESOL Subject Specialists Level 3 Certificate in Adult ESOL Subject Support Level 2 Certificate for Adult Learner Support

  11. How do I become an approved centre? • Existing City & Guilds centres will need to complete a SAP form to become an approved centre • Contact Nearest Regional Office for further detail
