  2. The Immune System Consists of • Appendix • Lymph node • Spleen • Skin • Thymus • Tonsil

  3. Different Types of Immunity • The Acquired Immune System and the Innate Immune System both play major roles in defending the body. • The Innate Immune System is always working • The Acquired Immune System needs to be started by some foreign agent.

  4. Link That System! • The Immune system needs the Digestive system to function by ridding of unnecessary waste. • The Immune system would link to the Cardiovascular system because they depend on each other. • The Immune system would link to the Urinary system because urine gets rid of excess waste like the digestive system. • The Immune and the Respiratory system go hand in hand. For example if someone have allergies that affects their nasal cavities, it goes through the immune system. • The Nervous system is important to the Immune system since the brain and the spinal cord control everything. • The Endocrine system and the Immune system link because they both have a thymus.

  5. Appendix • Many people believed that the appendix was useless for a long time. • Now, scientists think that the good bacteria in our appendix serves a good purpose against fighting diarrhea.

  6. Lymph node • Lymph nodes act like a filter to form particles found in the body. • Lymph nodes are found in the neck, under the arms, and in the groin. • They moves fluid, waste, substances, and nutrients throughout the body.

  7. Spleen • The Spleen’s purpose is to recycle old red blood cells. • White blood cells trap organisms in the spleen. • Located in the left upper part of you abdomen.

  8. Skin • An organ just like livers, lungs, and hearts. • It’s main purpose is to provide protection from disease and pathogens. • Two layers that the skin is made of are the epidermis, and underneath it, the dermis.

  9. Thymus • The most critical role that the Thymus Gland plays is before birth and shortly thereafter in creating the immune system. • The gland usually shrinks after puberty. • Located behind the sternum, below the Thyroid gland, in the upper Thorax.

  10. Tonsil • Are composed of Lymphoid tissue which are mostly involved in the production of antibodies. • They are designed to help fight off viral infections. • Located in the back wall of the throat.

  11. Cause of Death • Diabetes could be a cause of death due to the excess glucose that is carried throughout the body through the bloodstream. • Other systems would be effected because the blood stream affects every part of the body.
