  3. Vision Statement • The Library is the Centre of Knowledge and Learning. The Librarian is a main facilitator of learning and providing resources and launching a Reading Program in order to develop a Reading Culture at KFS. • As the depository of printed (Bibliotheca) and on-line (digital) information, the Library provides information services that are reliable and valid. • Critical evaluation of information is a primordial task as research is a paramount skill especially on the Internet. by Pierre B. Summary of My Library Work Experience • Cataloguing , developing and maintaining a private library collection. • Voluntary work at PNFI, Forestry Research Institute Library, Government of Canada, Chalk River, Canada. • With this colleague (Dr. Ben Wang) we produced a publication for FAO, United Nations • Librarian Training for the IBO (Level 3 Workshop in Vancouver, Canada, July, 2010). by Pierre B.   5. Assisting the set-up of an IB School Library • Assisting the set-up and a full-fledged functioning of an IB School Library. • Participating in a successful IB authorization process at the European School, San Jose, Costa Rica by Pierre B. DeLevay

  6. Library/Information Related Professional Activities • I wrote several Annotated Bibliographies with the collaboration of Catherine B. DeLevay about professional research publications in natural sciences covering from genetics to robotics: Government of Canada. by Pierre B. DeLevay

  7. Primary Goal:Promote Reading in order to nurture the intellect of future Saudi Leaders by Pierre B. DeLevay

  8. Goals & Objectives Specific measurable objectives: -The Library will increase its classical and contemporary literary collection (literature is the heart of fostering language acquisition). • The Library will increase its reliable web-based on-line subscriptions as the Library becomes a more centralized hub . by Pierre B.   9. How these Goals & Objectives will be achieved? • KFS will provide professional services as to enhance research skills. • The Library will increase the visit numbers for information search • Increase the circulated items and activities in MYP/DP/AD by Pierre B. DeLevay

The Library's Role The Library must create a reading community by introducing activities (DEAR, on-line services to teachers, school-wide Reading Clubs and Info-Blogging@library.kfs.sch.sa) The Library must become an Information and Knowledge Centre of the Secondary School. by Pierre B.   11. Additional Goals: • KFS Library: The whole collection should be available for search on-line from the Internet (with login from home). Encourage alumni and members of the KFS Family to donate to the KFS Library. • Develop a more balanced collection after having assessed the existing resources. • Collaborate with other International School libraries (major activities, events and inter-library loans) in order to enhance a variety of resources. by Pierre B. Setup of the Library • Physical: • Install more computers to create an on-line Information Centre • Additional requirements: • Inviting Reading Corners • Setting up stand-alone research stations • Installing an interactive whiteboard to teach Information Literacy • Personnel requirements: CAS hours can be used for volunteer work in the Library (Re-shelving, creating list of resources , assigned tutoring for students with reading difficulties, etc.) by Pierre B.   13. Plans: Key to Success • Using interactive whiteboard for Information Literacy Instruction. • Launching Reading Library Sessions in collaboration with the English Department. • Develop an adequate and appropriate library collection in order to support the curriculum, and instruction • Develop a Library and Information Literacy Continuum. • Address the issues of plagiarism by introducing “Turn-it-in” . • Create a Library website linked to the School’s homepage. • Developing reading –related activities and events (e.g. “Poetry Alive” with follow-up, Open Days for parents, establishing Book Clubs, for the school breaks, etc.) • For the IB , vacant periods could be spent in the Library for collaborative learning , research or consultations with the Librarian. by Pierre B. What Are The New Ideas To Create SUSTAINABLE READING? • In the 21st century to create Sustainable Reading is achievable only if new technologies are introduced in the Library: • I-Pad, Kindle, Mobile Digital Books and laptops in circulation for students and teachers for Lifelong Learning.
