  3. What Physiotherapists Do: • Improve physical problems using their knowledge and skills • TREAT: • Neuromuscular • Musculoskeletal • Cardio-respiratory

  4. 3 CORE AREAS IN PHYSIOTHERAPY: • Respiratory (Heart & lungs): • (Chest – asthma, COPD, emphysema) • Clear secretions / airways • Pulmonary Rehab (Exercise)

  5. 3 CORE AREAS IN PHYSIOTHERAPY: • Neurology (Brain & Nerves): • (MS, Stroke, head injury) • Retrain walking / movements • Help patients get life back together

  9. My Daily Routine: • (A) CLINIC: 30-45 minute sessions 10-14 patients daily Wide range of injuries Assessment / treatment / rehabilitation

  10. My Daily Routine: Notes and Paperwork Liaise with GP, Podiatrist, Consultant, Surgeon, Family

  11. Treatment: • Manual Therapy • Electrotherapy / machinery • Massage • Stretching / Strength Exercise

  12. Match Day Routine: • Prepare equipment needed – ice/strapping's/tape… • All strapping’s 1st– mainly ankles/wrist/shoulder • Pre-game massage • Help with warm-up

  13. Match Day Routine: • Pitch-side cover – emergency equipment • Half-time – ice/stretch/massage • Full-time – injury assessments/initial treatments • Liaise with manager and club Doctor. • Warm-down

What makes a good Physio: • Hard Working • Patience and understanding of people • Sympathetic approach towards the patients, • A keen desire to help people live their normal lives • Level headed to deal with emergencies in work • Team spirit, • Good observation power • Ability to instil confidence and courage in patients

  15. Progression and development as a Physiotherapist: • NHS – Band / Grade system • Private Clinic – • Sport / women's health / pediatrics / occupational health . .

Usual Salaries in Physiotherapy: • Initial physiotherapist salary The National Health Service (NHS) is £19,683 - £25,424. • This can rise to £23,458 - £31,779 for specialist physiotherapists • Physiotherapist team managers £28,313 - £37,326 • Principal physiotherapists (consultants) earn between £36,112 and £62,402 • Professional sport – (£50,000 - £200,000)
