  1. Our trip around the World The travel log and itinerary of John and Carol. Developed by Beena, John, Laura, and Carol

  2. Preparations Prior to our arrival in New York, we ordered items we would need for our trip online. • Inflatable kayak : $100 • Meal-ready-to-eat (MREs) : 12 packs for $90 • Fishing net: $27 We carried these items in our backpacks, along with a couple pairs of clothing.

  3. Preparations We found out that the Cutty Shark would be traveling to London the following day. We met with Capt. Phoenix, and to help us achieve our ambitious goal, he agreed to provide us with transportation, lodging, and food in exchange for our labor on the ship. Both of us will be working in the kitchen.

  4. Departure Departure from New York, NY at 4 am on August 2. The trip to London is 3463 miles. The boat travels at approximately 17 mph, so we anticipate arriving in London on August 10.

  5. Days 1 – 8 John battled seasickness and was of little help in the kitchen. Carol dutifully covered up in order to keep up the agreement with the Captain. These were eight loooooonnng days.

  6. London Due to fortunate weather, we arrived in London on schedule, at 6 am on Tuesday, August 10. Although tired, we were excited to visit our planned destinations: Buckingham Palace and Big Ben.

  7. Treating Ourselves After eating a diet consisting of mostly fish, and trying our first MRE for lunch, we decided to treat ourselves to a nice meal that evening at Cecconi’s a five star restaurant.

  8. Lodging in London We slept soundly at Piccadilly Backpacker’s Hostel. In the morning we enjoyed the provided breakfast and used the internet café to plan our next leg of the trip. Before leaving, we purchased a special sand tent from another backpacker at the hostel.

  9. From London to Suez From London to the White Cliff’s of Dover Horseback Riding: 15 hours (upon arrival the horse died, and we salvaged the meat) Crossing the English Channel to Calais, France Kayaking : 4 hours Stopped in Calais to purchase non-perishable groceries From Calais, France to Sicily, Italy Hot Air Balloon : 3 days (planned)

  10. Unexpected turn of events While we were refueling in Sicily, we were picked up by a large gust of wind and were unable to stop for an additional four days. Luckily we had purchased additional fuel and had enough food to last the journey. When we finally stopped, we found ourselves at the coast of Egypt.

  11. Arrival in Suez From the coast to Suez Camel Ride: 6 hours (upon arrival the horse died, and we salvaged the meat)

  12. When we get to Cairo we pass the small town called zagzig and we visit Bubastis temple where cat was worshiped in ancient time
