Idaho Board of Nursing • Mission • To regulate nursing practice and education for the purpose of safeguarding the health, safety and welfare of the public. • Annual Activity as of 12/31/09 • Total licensed nurses: 19,352 • RNs: 15,531 LPNs: 3,821 APNs: 971 • Total complaints received: 104 • Enrolled in the PRN: 80 • Total approved education programs: 21 • RN programs: 14 LPN programs: 7 • RN Program applicants: 1,812 • Admissions: 1,039 • Graduates: 854
Major Board Accomplishments • Licensure • Increased electronic renewals from 79% to 89% • Practice • Managed 83 formal complaints • Disciplined 27 licenses • Education • Approved the first Medication Assistant program to be administered by LCSC • Denied the application to plan AD/RN program at Brown-Mackie College, Boise • Governance • Active member of the Nurse Licensure Compact • Active member of the RWJ/AARP Citizens to Champion Nursing in America Initiative • Adopted revised Values • Amended the Idaho Nursing Practice Act to extend Board member terms • Communication • Published and distributed five newsletters • Created “Frequently Asked Questions” for LPNs • Presentations to 24 separate groups
Priority Issues in 2010 • Beginning regulation of Certified Medication Assistants (MA-C) • Determination of the effectiveness of the PRN as an alternative to discipline • Requirements for Board approval for continuing education programs • Continued implementation of strategies to protect the environment • Support the work of the Idaho Coalition on Nursing
INA President’s Message • Innovative “New Member” discount promotion • Increased membership 10% to 225 • Healthcare Without Harm Grant • RNs for a Greener Idaho Program • Greener Idaho section on website • Celebration of 100th Anniversary • Presentation on the History of Nursing
Report of the TreasurerAs of March 31, 2010 • Total Assets = $75,708 • $30,722 Money Market reserve funds • $2,453 District 31 Fund • $42,533 Checking Account • Strong cash position • Exceeds 50-100% 1 year’s expenses • Performance vs. Budget on target except: • RN Idaho sponsorship revenues • Conference revenues and expenses • Slight decline in Membership Dues • Increase in New Members during past month
