ABOUT GEORGE… • There is no doubt that George Best was a genius in his field. Remembered for his glory days at Manchester United, his electrifying performances for Northern Ireland and of course his love for the good life. As a footballer he had a rare combination of talent and as a person he had a natural charm and charisma that captured the hearts of a nation.
THE LIFE OF GEORGE… • 1946- George was born in Belfast • 1951- George began school, destined to be a footballing hero • 1960- He played for a local boys club in Cregagh • 1961- He was given a trial and signed up to play for Man Utd • 1964- Makes debut for Northern Ireland • 1967- Voted European Player of the Year • 1970- Scores six goals in an FA Cup fifth-round tie at Northampton • 1971- Withdraws from the Northern Ireland squad after threats on his life • 1977- Makes the last of 37 international appearances for Northern Ireland against Holland in Belfast
LATER YEARS… • 1980: Begins treatment for alcoholism • 1981: Son Calum Milan Best is born • 2005: July - Cleared over allegations of indecently assaulting a teenage girl.October 3 - Doctors at the private Cromwell Hospital in west London reveal Best is in intensive care with kidney problems. October 28 - Best remains in hospital and while there is a slight improvement in his condition he remains in a serious condition. November 23 - Best deteriorated and was back on a ventilator.November 25 - Best dies aged 59.
