The True Map??? Which one??? The Mercator Map OR The Peters Projection Map. The Mercator Map is the map that we most of us know as the true map. BUT.... In 1973 a journalist called Arno Peters created a new world map that improves the accuracy of how we see earth today.
How Are they different??? With the traditional Mercator map (circa 1569, and still in use in many schoolrooms and boardrooms today), Greenland and China look the same size. But in reality China is almost 4 times larger! Greenland: 0.8 million sq. miles Africa: 11.6 million sq. miles The Peters projection map Mercator Map
Why would social justice agencies like Caritas want the Peter’s Map I think social justice agencies would want the peters projection map so if the poor country is big they have a rough idea of how much money they need to raise to help the poor country.
