The Different Branches • Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, & Coast Guard • 3 Areas: Land, Air, & Sea (a 4th area in modern-day military tactics is technology) • [video] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mlb24ER_JrU
Interview: Josiah N. • Q1: Can you share your reason(s) why you decided to enter the military, and was there a specific motive for the branch that you joined? • A1: Growing up my dad had worked for the department of the navy, and Ihad always been around a lot of military stuff. I was in JROTC, and was super interested in just about everything military. My brother went into college with the Navy paying his way, and I decided to look into the Air Force and Navy, but the Air Force didn't return any of my calls, so Iended up joining the Navy.
Interview: Josiah N. • Q2: Could you share one story from your military experience that you will never forget? • A2: In Iraq, about 4 months into a 7 month deployment, We were sent to patrol through a neighborhood that we knew there was an agreement between the Iraqi officials and the insurgent leaders that nothing would happen there. We passed an ice cream shop, and our interpreter ran in and bought us all ice cream cones. We continued the patrol eating ice cream.
Interview: Josiah N. • Q3: How easy or difficult was it to be a Christian in the military? • A3: In the military you eat, sleep, work and live with the same group of people. There is no hiding who you are, so it is more difficult to create a facade of Christian behavior, or to try to fake anything else. In many ways it was easier for me to be a Christian there then at PBC [piedmont Baptist college], but at times very rough dealing directly with people who want nothing to do with God.
Interview: Josiah N. • Q4: What would you say to a high school student that is considering joining the military? • A4: If you are thinking of joining the military talk to people who are currently in. Recruiters will often tell you what you want to hear and not the truth. And more importantly, if you have a problem with authority that won’t go away when you join, it will just make your life awful. In every job you work you will have to do some things you hate, and will have to deal with people you just don't get along with. The military seems to make these things worse.
