  1. Fruit of the Spirit – self-control Matt 24:45-51 Pastor Keone

  2. Galatians 5:22-23 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Appearance of fruit of the Spirit… • We are allowing HS to work in us • Should see changes in our habits, attitudes, and desires to be more like Jesus

  3. Self-Control – because of the Holy Spirit, you are able to control yourself to be more like Jesus • To stop doing the things we shouldn’t do Galatians 5:19-21 19 The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

  4. Self-Control – because of the Holy Spirit, you are able to control yourself to be more like Jesus • To stop doing the things we shouldn’t do • To start/continue doing the things we should do Galatians 5:22-23 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

  5. Self-Control – because of the Holy Spirit, you are able to control yourself to be more like Jesus • To stop doing the things we shouldn’t do • To start/continue doing the things we should do We are no longer slaves to sin, Jesus set us free. • Romans 6:6-7,11 6 For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin-- 7 because anyone who has died has been freed from sin… 11 In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus.

  6. What’s your initial reaction when you are tempted? • I can resist this myself… • God has given me the strength to resist this myself… • It’s only by God’s strength that I will be able to resist this… 1 Corinthians 10:13 13 No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.

  7. What does self-control look like? 1 Peter 5:8-9 8 Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 9 Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings. James 4:7 7 Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Submit to God…Resist the devil… and he will flee

  8. Fruit of the Spirit appear in our lives as we allow the Holy Spirit to work in our lives.
