Next Screen, Page Down Running Scanlite & ScanBest V10.02 • ScanDemo Software • Create a new subdirectory for the demo code • Copy all of the files into the new directory. • Launching the scandemo.exe file starts the program • Instructions – • Initial Test for Documents Per Minute (DPM) - (Using typical PC, 2.4 Ghz, One GB ram, USB 2.0 port) • TS230 - BW mode should run 35, 65 or 100 DPM depending on the model used. • - Gray to BW or TI200x200 mode should run within 1 or 2 DPM of the bitonal (BW) images • Note: If the speeds are significantly slower, check the USB port to be sure it’s not USB 1.1. The demo code runs in batch mode where as the customer’s application may be in item or batch mode. Item mode runs about 42 to 45 DPM. The PC processor may be busy, low on memory, slow hard drive or bad USB cable are other considerations. Sorting is • significantly improved with the latest API code (V9.10) or newer. Some programming calls may need to be changed. • Edge Detection Scanning • The new Edge Detection algorithm looks at each pixel vertically and horizontally and determines what’s an edge of a character or line and what is shading or background. It then attempts to remove those bits that are not considered to be edges. This has several benefits: • · It reduces or eliminates the background shading that makes some checks very difficult to capture in a TIFF format. • · It reduces the size of the image file due to fewer bits to store. • · Since this is being done in software on the PC, a more powerful PC can speed up the processing time. This allows for greater flexibility in scaling up for greater throughput than if this process were fixed within the hardware. Page 1 of 3
Next Screen, Page Down Running Scanlite Instructions – Scanlite is a simplified demo program. There is only the one screen that comes up when you launch scanlite.exe. The base setup is pre-defined and cannot be changed. There are options for capturing in different formats and three options to select Endorse, Double Feed and Sort. All images are captured in 200x200 resolution mode. • Each time the program is launched, it resets the index to #1 • B/W = Standard fixed thresholded Bitonal (TIF) images. 9 is the default setting. • Grayscale = Standard JPG, 4 bit grayscale. • Color = Standard JPG compressed color images. • Gray-B/W = Adaptive thresholded, JPG to Bitonal (TIF) images. • Color – B/W = Adaptive thresholded JPG to Bitonal (TIF) images. • Endorse = Prints a alphanumeric string on each document. It prints a string similar to, ‘BATCH000123456789’ on the rear in about the middle of the document. • Sort = (Only on two pocket scsanners) Puts 7 documents into the outer pocket and one to the inner pocket as a test. • Frank option allows a unit with the franking feature to enable the franker stamp, as a test. (only on models with the franker feature). • Double Feed = The double feed detection which will stop with an error code of -217 if a document that is too thick is sensed indicating there may be a piggy back. The • No-Stop selection allows the API to intelligently determine if it’s a piggy back or not. Page 2 of 3
Next Screen, Page Down Running ScanBest ScanBest incorporates the multi-thresholding functions, similar to how DCCSCAN works within the DCC API. Pressing the Scan button starts the cycle. The upper image is the re-thresholded bitonal image that was built from the grayscale image at the bottom. The data in the upper right indicate some of the bitonal image values and the MICR data.
