  3. Sport lenses "Technical Product Information“ 1. Product details The face form angle • The plane of the frame does not coincide with the plane of the eyeshape • The resulting angle between the two planes is known as the face form angle (FFA) Plane of the frame Plane of the eyeshape

  4. Sport lenses "Technical Product Information“ 1. Product details The tilt angle • The tilt is approximately the same as the face form angle when the point of vision coincides with the geometrical centre of the eyeshape • In dependence on the face form angle, the curvature of the lenses and the frame and fitting data Geometrical centre of the eyeshape Point of vision Plane of the frame Tilt angle Tangent at vision point on front surface

  5. Sport lenses "Technical Product Information“ • Product details The following problems arise due to the tilt angle with sports eyewear: • Prismatic side effects • Oblique astigmatism • Refraction errors Rodenstock Sport lenses take the special conditions during sports into account so that optimum vision is taken into account during sports

  6. Sport lenses "Technical Product Information“ • Product details – Perfalit Sport • Three-point stamp • The centre marks the reference point and fitting point • R/L marks • Rodenstock brand engraving (position free as with normal SV) • Ordering toric lenses: The axis must be given • Lenses may not be rotated by 180°

  7. Sport lenses "Technical Product Information“ 1. Product details – ImpressionILT Sport • ImpressionILT Sport is optimised especially to the needs of sports-active presbyopic spectacle wearers • The near zone of ImpressionILT Sport has been designed for a distance range for near vision of a maximum of 60 cm • ImpressionILT has a larger distance zone than all-round progressive lenses • ImpressionILT Sport takes account of the position of the lens in front of the eye in addition to the refraction values (online optimisation of the progressive atoric surface) • PD, CVD, pantoscopic tilt, FFA • Frame shape and fitting

  11. Sport lenses "Technical Product Information“ Product details – ImpressionILT Sport • ImpressionILT Sport, like Perfalit Sport, is available in 3 different lens versions • Extra curved BC: 7.5 (slipping down possible using Rx Lab Dialogue and tableau) • Clip in BC 3.50 to 9.5 (slipping up or down possible using Rx Lab Dialogue and tableau) • Basic curved BC 2.0 to 10.5 (slipping possible as above) • Special features for ImpressionILT Sport for Clip-in: XS version • Blanks of the ILT products

  12. Sport lenses "Technical Product Information“ • Product details – Perfalit Sport Delivery range & Diameters Addition: 1.00 D to 2.50 D Prism: up to 5 D where technically feasible Note: ImpressionILT Sport: 2.5 mm pre-decentration (can also be ordered as a centred lens, pre-decentration for extra-curved will later be increased to 5mm) extra curved ≤ j75 Clip-in ≤ j70 Basic curved ≤ j70 Cyl 2.00 Cyl 4.00 Cyl 2.00

  13. Sport lenses "Technical Product Information“ Monocular aberration (VA representation) Conventional progressive, ordered while quoting the refraction values: sph +2.0 cyl +1.0 A 60 Add 2.0 and glazed into a normal prescription frame (non-tilted lens).

  14. Sport lenses "Technical Product Information“ Monocular aberration (VA representation) Conventional progressive, ordered while quoting only the refraction values: sph +2.0 cyl +1.0 A 60 Add 2.0. (A FFA of 4° and a base curve of 5.5 D were used as the basis when calculating the lens) Glazing into a sports frame with an FFA of 12°. In addition, the lens was surfaced with a base curve of 7.0 D to ensure better fitting of the lens into the sports frame.

  15. Sport lenses "Technical Product Information“ Monocular aberration (VA representation) Conventional progressive lens, ordered while quoting the refraction values: sph +2.0 cyl +1.0 A 60 Add 2.0 and the FFA. (State of the art, e.g. Metzler Performer) Improvement only in the main- vision point. Restrictions in the vision zone due to the changed base curve and the high FFA (20°).

  16. Sport lenses "Technical Product Information“ Monocular aberration (VA representation) ImpressionILT Sport, ordered while quoting the refraction values: sph +2.0 cyl +1.0 A 90 Add 2.0. In addition, the required FFA of 12° and a base curve of 7.0 D were given in the order. The representation illustrates vision through the Impression ILT Sport progressive lens. The parameters of the wearing situation correspond to the parameters used as the basis for the calculation.

  17. Sport lenses "Technical Product Information“ 1. Product details Advantages of ImpressionILT Sport • Best possible correction due to consistent optimisation for the position of wear • Highest possible vision comfort with a design especially configured for the needs of athletes • Visual zones important for sports are larger than with all-round progressive lenses • Near zone of 60 cm adapted to sports activities • Precise inset for near distance of 60 cm • Reduced swimming effect over all-round progressive lenses • Low distortion, unlike sport lenses which were not especially calculated and which have been glazed into a frame with a higher FFA • The imaging errors and prismatic side effects which occur due to the tilt of the lenses are corrected

  18. Conventional progressive, ordered while quoting only the refraction values: sph +2.0 cyl +1.0 A 60 Add 2.0. FFA: 4°, BC 5.5D . Glazed into a sports frame with an FFA of 12°, BC 7.0D Sport lenses "Technical Product Information“ Binocular visual impression (VA representation) ImpressionILT Sport Refraction values: sph +2.0 cyl +1.0 A 60 Add 2.0 FFA: 12°, BC 7.0D

  19. Sport lenses "Technical Product Information“ 2. Product comparison • R+H Sports (SV) • Sola Spazio (SV) • Metzler Performer (SV) • Face form angle is taken into account in the calculation • Metzler Performer (progressive) a conventional standard progressive lens takes the tilted wearing position into account

  20. Sport lenses "Technical Product Information“ • General notes on ordering Perfalit Sport • Prescription values (including axis position for toric lenses) • Lens type, colour and coatings • Interpupillary distance (PD in mm) • Face form angle (FFA in °) • Frame and fitting data (incl. box shape) • Trial frame ordering/Trial frame CVD

  21. Sport lenses "Technical Product Information“ • General notes on ordering ImpressionILT Sport • Prescription values • Lens type, colour and coatings • Interpupillary distance (PD in mm) • Face form angle (FFA in °) • Pantoscopic tilt (PT in mm/°) • Corneal vertex distance (CVD in mm) • Trial frame ordering/Trial frame CVD • Frame and fitting data (incl. box shape)

  22. Sport lenses "Technical Product Information“ 3. General notes on ordering • Ordering Perfalit Sport: Axis must be given for toric lenses • Ordering ImpressionILT Sport: • Refraction data for distance • Addition (40cm) • Example: • The near zone is designed for 60 cm • Lower position of wear value & lower measured value (1.39 D)

  23. Sport lenses "Technical Product Information“ 3. General notes on ordering Measuring the individual parameters: • PD, pantoscopic tilt as usual • FFA as usual (if the FFA differs substantially in the fitted state: Note as in Tips and Technology, Sport) • CVD measurement not from the front, but obliquely from the side: CVD measuring ruler Plane of the frame CVD Plane of the eyeshape

  24. Sport lenses "Technical Product Information“ 3. General notes on ordering Ordering with frame and fitting data • Absolutely necessary! • Eyeshapes transferred using the order form • If there are any questions in this respect, refer to the Tips and Technology for Sport lenses • e.g. Manual determination of the eyeshapes • Determination of the eyeshapes during tracing

  25. Sport lenses "Technical Product Information“ 3. General notes on ordering and on edging The corrected PD for edging (schematic representation) -> the COR PD is usually smaller than the customer PD Plane of the frame Customer PD L Customer PD R Plane of the eyeshape Visual axis when looking straight ahead

  26. Sport lenses "Technical Product Information“ The COR PD results from the calculated decentration in the x direction. This is dependent on the following parameters: • Frame data • Eyeshape length • Distance between the lenses • Face form angle • PD • Base curve New pictogram on the lens envelope (COR PD)

  27. Sport lenses "Technical Product Information“ Determining the COR PD (in advance to determine the diameter) • In the Rx Lab Dialogue under "Tools" Point "Sport Edging PD…“ • On the BTablet under "Centration nasal“ The COR PD is only approximate; it is better to perform an Rx lab calculation to determine the diameter correctly!

  28. Sport lenses "Technical Product Information“ Check the lenses with reference to the lens envelope • Distance power: Nominal measured value for sphere, cylinder and axis at distance measuring point (fitting point) • Prismatic power: Combined power from thinning prism, prescribed prism and compensation prism • Addition: Difference of the average power between the near measuring point and the distance measuring point

  29. Sport lenses "Technical Product Information“ Check the glazed lenses in the sports frame An offset towards the eye results from the tilted position of the lens and the prismatic deflection. When checking the centration with the spectacles being worn, the fitting points is not at the pupil centre since this is shown outwardly offset.

  30. Sport lenses "Technical Product Information“ • Lens calculation • Tableau + BTablet: Job recording, not a job calculation! • PD is converted from BTablet. If all parameters and frame data have been entered correctly, the COR PD values from Rx Lab calculation and tableau coincide!

  31. Sport lenses "Technical Product Information“ • Lens calculation • Tableau: Order arrives as "Uncut and Shape" with opt. diameter • Rx lab dialogue: If a shape is used, an MDM 3 job is automatically calculated -> With Rx Lab Dialogue, make sure that the job is calculated as "Uncut and Shape" and opt. diameter.

  32. Sport lenses "Technical Product Information“ 4. Lens calculation

  33. Sport lenses "Technical Product Information“ Entry in "Trial frame“ With Perfalit Sport • Set pantoscopic tilt to "Standard • CVD correction if trial frame CVD differs from prescription CVD

  34. Sport lenses "Technical Product Information“ • Differences to previous lens calculation • Face form angle: Previously no difference in the tilt angle of the lens and the FFA • No rounding: Required values are calculated and surfaced precisely (e.g. prism 0.32 D) • Reference point: Optical centre and reference point do not coincide; this was previously not taken into account. • Surfacing: The lens can be checked using the calculated nominal values and be fitted more precisely using COR PD.

  35. Sport lenses "Technical Product Information“ • Special features of production Perfalit Sport and ImpressionILT Sport: The useful diameters can be restricted due to the high front surface curvature The diameter depends on • eyeshape length of the sports frame (should be as small as possible) • fitting (should be as central as possible) • Sports frames usually have a large eyeshape length so that a large PD would be more advantageous • A higher RI generates advantages (1.6) • MDM is not always the best solution due to the minimum edge thicknesses

  36. Sport lenses "Technical Product Information“ • Complaints (incompatibility) • Different angles for R/L arise between the lens and the angle of view for lateral movements of gaze • The spontaneous visual impression can differ from that of the previous spectacles • The change can require a period of adaptation

  37. Sport lenses "Technical Product Information“ • Complaints (incompatibility) • Different magnitudes of aberration arise for R/L at the corresponding points of vision for lateral movements of gaze • Astigmatism • Effect • Magnification • Distortion See on the right for an example of magnification

  38. Sport lenses "Technical Product Information“ • When analysing the incompatibility, differentiation between monocular and binocular • Monocular: possibly glazing error • Binocular: interpose a prism

  39. Sport lenses "Technical Product Information“ • "Expandable" delivery range“ • Perfalit Sport and ImpressionILT Sport are only produced in the delivery range shown! • The power ranges are selected for the different lens versions so that the binocular aberration is still just acceptable with a maximum orderable FFA • A higher addition than 2.5D is not possible, as an addition of 2.5D would also result with an ordered addition of 3.0D • No guaranteed production of orders outside the delivery range (release by the product manager) • With Perfalit Sport 1.5 and PCM • Externally: Diameter 75 • Internal diameter 80 • -> Presentation in diameter 78 possible

  40. Sport lenses "Technical Product Information“ • The official line • Point out the general problems with highly tilted lenses • „Physical laws" cannot be suspended so that power ranges are limited • Aberration • Prismatic side effects • Astigmatism • Refraction errors • Binocular problems • With lateral movements of gaze • Different visual impressions are unavoidable The system-induced binocular imbalance can result in longer adaptation periods in very sensitive wearers

  41. Questions already raised • Why cannot SV Sport be ordered in decentred form? Pre-decentration causes problems in positioning the measuring point in production. For this reason and for time reasons (market launch date), this expansion was not pursued further. • Can the BC be changed with Extra Curved? Extra Curved only has one available BC (ILT: BC 7.5; SV: BC 7.93 or 7.5) -> Extension to follow • Can the BC be changed with Clip-In? Yes; Clip-In has a more curved BC association than comparable SV lenses

  42. Questions already raised • How can the diameter already be determined before the order? • Enter actual customer PD under BTABLET in addition to "Centration nasal • Press the "Centration nasal" button - the dialogue window for the calculation of the edging PD opens • Please check whether all input parameters are correct here • After the calculation, the edging PD is taken over automatically in BTABLET by pressing "OK • The diameter is displayed in the window "Du Min"
