  2. **INTENT** The intent of this 2 hour interactive very fast paced Power Point clinic is to bullet point an umpires awareness, etiquette, points to ponder, and helpful hints, that will improve an umpires game outside of the LITTLE LEAGUE RULE BOOK, and bridge all 7 of its Leagues through training of umpires as one District for the benefit of each leagues season, TOC and All-Stars.

  3. WHY DO YOU DO WHAT YOU DO?

  4. “SO, YOU WANT TO BE AN UMPIRE?”

  5. WHO SAYS UMPIRES ARE STUPID? Little League doesn’t…………….. “OFTEN AN OVERLOOKED ASPECT OF THE LITTLE LEAGUE PROGRAM, UMPIRING IS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT”. --Little League International Operating Manual ********************** UMPIRES ARE THE ONLY PEOPLE AT THAT BALL PARK WHO HAS NO VESTED INTEREST IN THE OUTCOME OF THE GAME.

  6. WHAT IS THE NUMBER ONE PRIORITY OF ALL LITTLE LEAGUE UMPIRES?

  7. LITTLE LEAGUE BASEBALLWELCOMES “BIG DOGS” & “LITTLE DOGS”

  8. HERE WE GO UMPIRES HAVE BEEN CALLED MORE DIRTY NAMES THAN WHAT IS WRITTEN ON A HIGH SCHOOL BATHROOM WALL. WHY?

  9. “UMPIRES COME IS ALL SKILL LEVELES”.QUESTION: WHAT ARE YOUR LEAGUES DOING TO ENCOURAGE or MOTIVATE THEIR UMPIRES TO IMPROVE THEIR SKILL LEVEL?

  10. NON MONATARY INCENTIVES IS A PROVEN METHOD OF REWARDING and RETAINING UMPIRES. Gift Cards Earned Equipment paid by the League. After season umpire lunch. A link to their business on League website. A League banner of their business. All-Star, Sectional – Regional & WS Recommendations. Concert or Ball Game Tickets.

  11. ONCE YOU HAVE MADE THE DECISIONTO REMOVE ANY EQUIPMENT, IT IS A DONE DEAL!(but always tell the manager why) “C’mon BLUE, be a nice guy”

  12. “DURING THE GAME”HELPFUL HINTS & TIPS NEVER put your hands in your pockets. NEVER fold your arms. Never chew gum on the field. OBVIOUS fall balls to the fence or out of play with no runners on are “Stadium Calls”, no verbalization needed. FOUL BALLS with runners on: make calls to prevent player injury. NEVER lean up on any fence during a game. AVOID verbally talking to your fellow umpire(s) during the entire game. BASE UMPIRE only responds to plate umpire on check swing. PATIENCE on calls: Especially early in season and in Minor Divisions. AVOID managers and coaches in between innings. NEVER talk to your partner in between innings after a close call. BASE UMPIRES walk down the line between innings. DO NOT carry your Rule Book on the field (but have one handy if needed).

  13. THESE ARE PICKELS

  14. IT IS NOT THE JOB OF UMPIRES TO SOLVE A LEAGUES MANAGER ISSUES. BUT IF YOUR BOARDS ARE WILLING TO MEET YOUR UMPIRES WE CAN ALL WORK TOGETHER AND RESOLVE ISSUES.
