  1. Spellcast Farm Mission: to develop an integrated farming model utilizing pastured meat rabbits and market vegetables

  2. Meat Rabbits • Humanely raised on pasture • Much of our rabbits’ food is waste vegetable matter (free!) • We are focusing on lucrative niche markets • Pastured rabbits command a higher price than caged rabbit or pastured poultry • We are preserving rare, heritage breeds of rabbits

  3. Market Vegetables • Vegetables are grown chemical-free and environmentally friendly which adds value to the product • Vegetable waste feeds the rabbits • Rabbit manure fertilizes the vegetables and adds organic matter to the soil • Complete on-farm integration • Growing vegetables gives us the ability to offer unique vegetable or herb parings with the rabbit at the market offering a desirable one-stop shopping experience

  4. About Spellcast Farm • Formed in 2008 • In 2012 became the first farm in the United States certified by Animal Welfare Approved for rabbits • In 2013 the Farm received two different grants from sustainable agriculture foundations to explore this integrated farming model and to expand the operation • We have a solid client base selling directly to consumers with many repeat customers. The demand for some of our products such as rabbit meat is exceeding supply. We need to expand. • We are diversified: in addition to the rabbits, we raise ducks for eggs and meat, Jersey cattle for milk and meat and market vegetables.

  5. Target Market • Individuals seeking healthy, locally-grown food • Gourmets and “Foodies” • Individuals seeking food from animals raised in a humane, sustainable environment • We primarily sell our products through the Charlotte Regional Farmer’s Market which is a year round market and directly off the farm.

  6. Marketing Efforts • Frequently updated web site: www.spellcastfarm.com including an on-line journal of farm happenings

  7. Active Facebook Page • Weekly newsletter currently being sent to over 300 individuals • Various articles have been written about the Farm in both local and national publications such as Organic Gardening • Animal Welfare Approved Listing • Word of mouth – good products sell!

  8. Call to Action • The Farm currently carries no debt. • All Farm income gets rolled back into the farm • We have a high demand for our products and we need to expand • I am not your normal farmer! • Seeking grant money or low-interest loans in order to add infrastructure to facilitate expansion.
