  1. SAFE IN THE ARMS OF JESUS Mark 10:13-16 [By Ron Halbrook]

  2. SAFE IN THE ARMS OF JESUS • Introduction: 1. Mark 10:13-16 Trust Jesus with childlike faith

  3. 13 And they brought young children to him, that he should touch them: and his disciples rebuked those that brought them. 14 But when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God. 15 Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein. 16 And he took them up in his arms, put his hands upon them, and blessed them. 1. Mark 10:13-16 Trust Jesus with childlike faith

  4. SAFE IN THE ARMS OF JESUS • Introduction: 2. Receive the kingdom of God: obey the gospel (Jn. 3:3-5)

  5. SAFE IN THE ARMS OF JESUS 3. Why safe in the arms of Jesus: • His supreme love for us • His blood washes away our sins • He protects us from Satan & sin • His providence guides us at all times • He holds us securely in life & in death • He prepared heaven for us

  6. SAFE IN THE ARMS OF JESUS I. His Supreme Love for Us A. Good Shepherd Gives All for Sheep • Jn. 10:11-15 “I am the good shepherd”

  7. 11 I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep. 12 But he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth: and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep. 13 The hireling fleeth, because he is an hireling, and careth not for the sheep. 14 I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine. 15 As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep. • Jn. 10:11-15 “I am the good shepherd”

  8. SAFE IN THE ARMS OF JESUS I. His Supreme Love for Us B. Loves Unworthy Sinners • Rom. 5:6-11 “Christ died for the ungodly”

  9. 6 For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. 7 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. 8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. • Rom. 5:6-11 “Christ died for the ungodly”

  10. 9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. 10 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life. 11 And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement. • Rom. 5:6-11 “Christ died for the ungodly”

  11. SAFE IN THE ARMS OF JESUS II. His Blood Washes Away Our Sins A. A Fountain for Cleansing from Sin • Zech. 13:1 Fountain open & free to all 1 In that day there shall be a fountain opened to the house of David and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem for sin and for uncleanness.

  12. SAFE IN THE ARMS OF JESUS II. His Blood Washes Away Our Sins A. A Fountain for Cleansing from Sin • Heb. 9:13-14 Perfect sacrifice for sin

  13. 13 For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh: 14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? • Heb. 9:13-14 Perfect sacrifice for sin

  14. SAFE IN THE ARMS OF JESUS II. His Blood Washes Away Our Sins A. A Fountain for Cleansing from Sin • Matt. 26:26-28 Fountain: blood of Christ

  15. 26 And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body. 27 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it; 28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. • Matt. 26:26-28 Fountain: blood of Christ

  16. SAFE IN THE ARMS OF JESUS II. His Blood Washes Away Our Sins B. Washed When First Obey the Gospel • Jn. 3:5 “Born of water” 5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

  17. SAFE IN THE ARMS OF JESUS II. His Blood Washes Away Our Sins B. Washed When First Obey the Gospel • Tit. 3:5 “Washing of regeneration” 5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

  18. SAFE IN THE ARMS OF JESUS II. His Blood Washes Away Our Sins B. Washed When First Obey the Gospel • Acts 22:16 “Wash away thy sins” 16 And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.

  19. SAFE IN THE ARMS OF JESUS II. His Blood Washes Away Our Sins C. Washed When Repent, Confess, & Pray • 1 Jn. 1:7-10 “The blood…cleanseth us”

  20. 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. 8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. • 1 Jn. 1:7-10 “The blood…cleanseth us”

  21. SAFE IN THE ARMS OF JESUS III. Protect Us from Satan & Sin A. As We Draw Near to the Lord in Prayer • 2 Cor. 12:7-10 Sufficient grace

  22. 7 And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure. 8 For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me. • 2 Cor. 12:7-10 Sufficient grace

  23. 9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong. • 2 Cor. 12:7-10 Sufficient grace

  24. SAFE IN THE ARMS OF JESUS III. Protect Us from Satan & Sin B. Renews & Reshapes Our Character • Gal. 5:19-23 The fruit of the Spirit

  25. 19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, 20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, 21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. • Gal. 5:19-23 The fruit of the Spirit

  26. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. • Gal. 5:19-23 The fruit of the Spirit

  27. SAFE IN THE ARMS OF JESUS III. Protect Us from Satan & Sin C. Protects Us from Satan’s Snares • 1 Cor. 10:13 Binds Satan, frees us

  28. 13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. • 1 Cor. 10:13 Binds Satan, frees us

  29. SAFE IN THE ARMS OF JESUS IV. His Providence Guides Us at All Times A. Guidance & Protection None Can Destroy • Jn. 10:27-30 Our lives in safe hands

  30. 27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: 28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. 29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand. 30 I and my Father are one. • Jn. 10:27-30 Our lives in safe hands

  31. SAFE IN THE ARMS OF JESUS IV. His Providence Guides Us at All Times B. Promises to Guide Us through Every Trial • Rom. 8:35-39 Secure in his loving guidance

  32. 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36 As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. 37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. • Rom. 8:35-39 Secure in his loving guidance

  33. 38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, 39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. • Rom. 8:35-39 Secure in his loving guidance

  34. SAFE IN THE ARMS OF JESUS V. He Holds Us Securely in Life & in Death A. Soul Renewed While Body Is Perishing • 2 Cor. 4:16-18 “Renewed day by day”

  35. 16 For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. 17 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; 18 While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal. • 2 Cor. 4:16-18 “Renewed day by day”

  36. SAFE IN THE ARMS OF JESUS V. He Holds Us Securely in Life & in Death B. We Will Be with Him When the Body Dies • 2 Cor. 5:6-9 Soul w/o body with him

  37. 6 Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord: 7 (For we walk by faith, not by sight:) 8 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. 9 Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him. • 2 Cor. 5:6-9 Soul w/o body with him

  38. SAFE IN THE ARMS OF JESUS V. He Holds Us Securely in Life & in Death C. United with Him in Life & Death • Phil. 1:20-24 With him in death: gain

  39. 20 According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death. 21 For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. 22 But if I live in the flesh, this is the fruit of my labour: yet what I shall choose I wot not. 23 For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better: 24 Nevertheless to abide in the flesh is more needful for you. • Phil. 1:20-24 With him in death: gain

  40. SAFE IN THE ARMS OF JESUS VI. He Prepared Heaven for Us A. He Left to Prepare Heaven, Will Bring Us • Jn. 14:1-6 “I am the way”

  41. 1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. 2 In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. • Jn. 14:1-6 “I am the way”

  42. 4 And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know. 5 Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way? 6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. • Jn. 14:1-6 “I am the way”

  43. SAFE IN THE ARMS OF JESUS VI. He Prepared Heaven for Us B. He Is Coming for the Living & the Dead • 1 Thess. 4:13-18 We will be with him

  44. 13 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. 14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. 15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. • 1 Thess. 4:13-18 We will be with him

  45. 16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. 18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words. • 1 Thess. 4:13-18 We will be with him

  46. SAFE IN THE ARMS OF JESUS VI. He Prepared Heaven for Us C. Our Hope Is Sure: Christ Is Raised • 1 Pet. 1:3-5 “Reserved in heaven for you”

  47. 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, 5 Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. • 1 Pet. 1:3-5 “Reserved in heaven for you”
