  3. Coconut Palm Facilities As the newest school in the Miami-Dade County system, Coconut Palm is home to some of the most technologically advanced facilities in the region. Our campus includes: • Four buildings (two three-level, two two-level). • Cutting-edge technology and interactive boards in every classroom. • Large courtyard designed for outdoor teaching. • Cyber Café • Cafetorium complete with stage for school productions. • Age-appropriate playgrounds. • High-tech media center • Reading room for pre-kindergarten and first grade students. • Two music suites • Two spacious art rooms • High-tech science lab • Large greenhouse • Technologically simulated medical classroom.

  4. Student Arrival & Dismissal Procedures • 8:20 AM (Breakfast time) • Before/After school care forms are • available upon requests. • Lunch Forms. • Balances. Parents must pay student’s balances directly to the school cafeteria or by visiting the school webpage. • 1:35 PM K-1 Students will go home, according to the instructions of the parents. Changes must be notified in writing to the teacher.

Daily Schedule Centers Intensive/Strategic/Initial Programs River Deep & Tumble Books Strategies at home Visit the library in your area and take advantage of the benefits offered to encourage the initiation of reading. Motivate student to watch educational programs that encourage reading. Avoid programs in Spanish.

  7. Mandatory Uniform Policy Coconut Palm K-8 Academy stands on the premise that the first requirement of quality education is to establish a safe and disciplined learning environment. The following School Uniform Policy is based on research and survey results from parents and teachers. The objective of the policy is to minimize the disruptions and distractions that can be caused by inappropriate attire. Research shows that when students wear uniforms, they are more focused and there are less disciplinary problems in school. Shoes may not have open toes or open heels. Shoes must be tied or properly fastened at all times. Students should learn to tie their shoelaces at home. Shirts and blouses must be tucked in neatly at all times.

  8. Absences Students missing 5 or more consecutive days of school are required to provide a written statement. The written statement must include all days the student has been absent from school. • Student illness • Medical appointment • Death in family • Observance of a religious holiday • Maintain updated contact telephone numbers

  9. Mom, I have a note for you to sign! Dad, I have to finish my homework for Monday! Materials and supplies Students should bring enough supplies for the 36 weeks of the school year. Materials must come appropriately marked and pencils must be sharpened.
