  5. “Research Arabia” - Initiative • Consolidation of efforts and launching “Research Arabia” initiative, to support researchers in the Arab countries with: • High bandwidth connectivity • Technology tools and applications • Middleware services • Grid/ Cloud/ High Performance Computing • Data Storage and archiving • Support and Expertise • Establish communities of practice/ expertise linked to the globe

Forward • Regional operation center (ROC) to operate, maintain, and manage networking, information flow, applications • Building capacity and developing technical skills • Cooperation and coordination with similar regional initiatives • Developing/ integrating into user/ scientific communities • Consolidate NGIs at the regional level

  7. Funding sources • Membership fees – NRENs and associated members • Project funding/ partnerships: EC, UNDP, UNESCO, World bank, Islamic development bank, Foundations, etc. • Governments – this could be facilitated through LAS • Donations • Usage and consultancy service fees

Partnership planning • With Arab NRENs as shareholders in ASREN and for NREN development • Coalition • ASREN • League of Arab States • Arab ICT organization • Association of Arab Universities • Union of Arab Scientific Research Councils • Regional R&E networks – Geant, Internet2, UbuntuNet, …etc. • Network operators
