  2. System Monitoring • DARPA and Ga. Tech are working to identify agents who might “break bad”. • Proactive Discovery of Insider Threats Using Graph Analysis and Learning (PRODIGAL) • Works on internal systems, not the Internet

Ethical Process • A government agency is monitoring its personnel. • Stakeholders include both DARPA and the govt. employees. • A) Scratch the project B) Finish the project as designed (best) C) Modify the project to be less invasive • A) Not everyone could use the project, unless they had legal permission to be monitoring the person B) People are treated as ends to means.

  4. Ethical Process • A) The people have already given permission to be monitored, so things are “natural”. B) The solution is not completely balanced, but it is meant to prevent future harm. • A) Given the alternative, this solution is the most efficient B) Yes, this will produce the greatest good. • A) I am comfortable with the solution. B) I chose the solution myself. 8. Realism was the most influential alignment.

  5. ACM Code • PRODIGAL does contribute to human well-being. (1.1) • Helps avoid harm to others. (1.2) • DARPA must be careful to obey laws regarding the privacy of government employees. (2.3) • They must also properly use access they have to employee computers. (3.3) • Maintenance must make sure not to access employee files. (3.5)
