  13. Swedish Family Life In 2010, only ⅓ of Swedish couples were actually married. Working parents are entitled to 480 days of leave per child. Swedish workers receive about 25 days of holiday from work. Most use these days in summer as business slow and children are out of school.

  14. Swedish Healthcare and Social Security Sweden has a universal health care system that is paid for by high taxes. About 25% of their wages go towards taxes. Due to this, doctor visits and medical emergencies are low cost in terms of direct payment. Each visit is only about 100 to 200 kr or 300 kr for a specialist. This is equivalent to about $15 for regular visits or $45 for a specialist. The Swedish social security system activates when a worker falls ill or becomes unemployed. The payment is linked to the worker’s previous salary. In the case of an illness, the employer pays about 80% for sick leave.
