  2. All About Mrs. Hall • Born and raised in Crystal City, Missouri. • My family and I live in the district. I have a fourth grader here at Sharon and a 8th grader at SFMS. • Undergraduate from Florida Southern College Masters Degree from Southeast Missouri State • Over 12 years of classroom experience in DeKalb, Gwinnett, and Forsyth Counties teaching grades, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th • Took time off to raise my kiddos, but stayed current tutoring many children in the area. • Completed four long term sub positions at Sharon • This is my second year in third grade! 

Daily Schedule 7:10-7:55 Morning Procedures and Morning work 7:55-8:35 Specials and restroom break 8:40-9:15 Grammar and Morning Work Check 9:15-10:30 Literacy Centers (volunteers needed! ) 10:30-11:10 Writer’s Workshop and Whole Group Reading 11:10-12:09 Math 12:09-12:39 Lunch 12:40-1:10 Recess 1:10-2:05 Read Aloud/Science/Social Studies 2:05-2:20 Homework in Agendas and Dismissal

  5. Classroom Management • Money System (checkbook system) • Dazzle Dots • Agenda notes • Weekly notes in Friday Folders

  6. Third Grade Reading We will be using a combination of whole group and differentiated guided reading groups throughout the year including: Literacy Centers Novel Studies Basal Stories Leveled Readers

  7. Guided reading groups Guided reading groups allow students to read and explore books on their level in a small group setting. Groups will meet with the me twice a week as part of a literacy center rotation. They will have reader’s response sheets to guide their understanding.

  8. Writing • Students will write on a variety of topics throughout the year. Our writer’s workshops will take students through the writing process with emphasis on: • Response to literature • Narrative • Informational • Persuasive

  9. Spelling and Grammar • Spelling lists are created from spelling patters that follow the reading series. We have added five Sitton “No Excuse” words to each list for mastery. Spelling tests are given each Friday. • Third Grade Grammar skills include • Parts of speech • Types of sentences • Mechanics (capitalization, punctuation…) • Daily Language Review Quizzes will also occur on Fridays

  10. Math Math will consist of whole group instruction and differentiated small group instruction. For the first nine weeks, we are getting the kids ready for timed multiplication tests. They will take place on Tuesdays and Fridays. Fun topics of study include: Place value, estimation/rounding, multiplication/division, area, perimeter, addition/subtraction , word problems, counting back change, geometry, fractions, and decimals.

  11. Science • Third Grade Units Include: • Rocks/Minerals/Fossils • Magnets • Heat Energy • Georgia Habitats and Adaptations • **Science will definitely be more challenging than in past years. Students will be expected to demonstrate higher level thinking skills. • **Study guides will be given for each unit. The third graders will be taking the science portion of the CRCT.

  12. Social Studies • Third Grade Social Studies Units: • Map Skills • Famous Americans • Roots to Democracy • Branches of Government • Economics

  13. Homework Policy • Homework will be assigned Monday through Thursday. • All students will write their homework in their agendas each afternoon. • Please check your child’s agenda each night and initial. • 20 minutes of reading is required each night.

  14. Communication • DOTS Binders • Agendas • Weekly Notes • Email • Phone Calls • **I will respond to your email or call within 24 hours. 

  15. Volunteers • There are so many ways to help out in and out of our classroom • Literacy Centers Mon.-Thurs. (beginning Sept. 20th) • Copy Parent/Friday Folders • Mystery Reader • School Store • At home projects • Media Center

  16. Pictures and Class Slide Show • For our events, I would love to have as many pictures taken as we can. • If we have a computer savvy parent who is willing to create a slideshow, I will provide the DVDs for this. If possible, we can all send our photos to our “director.” 

  17. Class Store and Wish Lists • The students are earning money for jobs and good behavior to spend in our class store. Our store will be open every other Friday beginning September 9th. • We are in need of some fun items that can be donated for very little money. (Pencils, erasers, bubbles, candies, silly bandz, trinkets…..) • Class Coupons will also be able to be purchased. (take your shoes off in class, purchase the rolling chair, sit with a friend for the day, diner’s theater…)
