  1. PMLAV IUID Implementation Bob Appleton

  2. IUID 101 • What is it? • How do we do it? • Why do we do it.

  3. What is IUID? IT’S A LICENSE PLATE

  4. Associated to a Database

  5. Or Two

  6. Automatic Identification Technology (AIT) Passive RFID Tags ContactMemory Buttons 1-D Barcode 1D Barcode 2-D Barcodes Data Matrix PDF417 EPC RFID Tag Active RFID Tags QR Code Aztec MaxiCode Bullseye

  7. Can You Spot the IUID? Each one is a data matrix, but only one is an IUID An IUID is always a data matrix A data matrix is not always an IUID

  8. IUID Data Constraints • Must be encoded into an ECC200 Data Matrix 2-D barcode • Must include ISO 15434 syntax • Must include appropriate semantics • Concatenated Unique Item Identifier (UII) no more than 50 characters • Characters A through Z and 0 through 9. Also / and – • No lower case letters, periods, asterisks, spaces (except when using TEI format), or other special characters. • UII must be globally unique • The UII, once assigned is permanent.

  9. Turning a Data Matrix into an IUID Compliant Mark Syntax Format Code: Data Identifiers: Enterprise Identifier: Part Number: Serial Number: [)>R/S06G/S17V98345G/S1PT123G/SS531R/SEOT The right informationencoded into the right kind of mark Unique Item Identifier (UII): D98345T123531

  10. Which Construct? • Construct #1 • Enterprise Identifier (CAGE, DODAAC, DUNS, etc) • Serial Number unique within the enterprise * Construct #1 is usually recommended for legacy equipment • Construct #2 • Enterprise Identifier • Original part, lot or batch number • Serial number unique within that part, lot or batch number Either construct is acceptable. Suppliers are permitted to use whichever they prefer.

  11. How is IUID Implemented • PMLAV IUID Implementation Plan • PMLAV Parts Marking Analysis • PMLAV Marking Instructions • DFARS 252.211-7003 • Submit IUID Data through the WAWF IT’S NOT THAT COMPLICATED (Remember, it’s just a license plate)

  12. WHAT TO MARK • All items valued over $5,000 • Serially Managed Items • Controlled Items • Mission Essential Items • Use deadline criteria, or • Your best judgment

  13. WHERE TO MARK • On existing data plate • Immediately adjacent to existing data plate • Where it will be accessible without affecting form, fit or function • Where it will be protected from wear or abuse • Decision may be based upon RCM type analysis

  14. HOW TO MARK • Legacy: Appropriate adhesive label • Aluminum • Tesa Tape • New Acquisition • On existing data plate if one is applied • Appropriate adhesive label • Direct part mark

  15. Why Item Unique Identification (IUID)? It’s all about the data • Clean Financial Audit • Accurate Data Capture • Effortless Asset Tracking • Detailed Configuration Management • Inventory Management • Performance Tracking • Warrantee Management
