  1. @ BBMS Judging Time – approx. 20 minutes You will receive a pass to come to the Media Center approx. 5 minutes before your judging time. All BBMS teachers and staff are aware that History Day students will be leaving class ONCE during the day to be judged

  2. @ BBMS Dress is Professional Posture exudes confidence Eyes make contact with judges Shake judges’ hands Top-notch manners “It’s nice to meet you.” “I’ll be happy to answer any questions you may have.” “Thank you for taking the time to judge my project.”

  3. @ BBMS You will have 2 – 3 judges. Who are the judges? Howard County Librarians Howard County Board of Education/Central Office members Local community member has a background in history BBMS Teachers/Staff

  4. @ BBMS WHAT MAY THE JUDGES ASK YOU? How/why did you select your topic? What type of sources did you use to gather your information? What skills did you learn as a result of this project? If you were to continue this project, what would your next step be, and why? As you conducted your research, did you encounter inconsistencies among the historical facts? If so, why do you think the historical facts may have been different between sources? What significance does your topic have in today’s society?

  5. @ BBMS How have the results of your topic impacted current times? How does your topic relate to the History Day theme? What is the difference between primary and secondary resources? What primary resources did you use in your research? How were they helpful to your investigation? If you were to do another historical investigation next year, what changes would you make to your process? What conclusions or lessons do you want people to make as a result of your research? What is the thesis of your project?

  6. @ BBMS How will you be judged? Notice which category is worth the most… 60 % - Historical Quality 20 % - Relation to Theme 20 % - Clarity of Presentation Rules Compliance

  7. @ BBMS The Theme is critical Rights & Responsibilities in History Know your topic inside and out Background information – Who, What, When, Where, Why Historical context – What else was going on at this time? What led up to this event? Who were the key people of influence?

  8. @ BBMS LAST-MINUTE TIPS: Eat a good breakfast (and lunch) Make sure you have an updated, crisp, clean version of your Annotated Works Cited for the judges to see. Bring 2 copies! Look over your project the night before Review your Annotated Works Cited the night before Know the value of your primary and secondary research
