Graduation Requirements CREDIT REQUIREMENTS: • English – 4.0 • Social Studies – 3.0 • Science – 3.0 • Mathematics – 3.0 • Physical Education – 1.0 • Health – 0.5 • Fine / Practical Arts – 1.0 • Humanities – 1.0 • Art, Music and Culture – 0.5 • Writing Seminar – 0.5 • Personal Finance – 0.5 • Additional Electives – 6.0 TOTAL = 24.00 ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: • Demonstration of Proficiency on State Assessments • Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA) • Keystone Exams • Completion of Community Action Project for Seniors (CAPS) PLEASE REFER TO THE 2011-2012 PROGRAM OF STUDIES FOR MORE INFORMATION!
Timeline for Course Selection • Begins in February, 2012 • Current academic teachers will make recommendations for placement • Recommended course load is 6.75 minimum • Important for students and parents to have conversations to discuss the recommendations and review course descriptions! • Meet with counselor to finalize recommendations • Placements final the last day in June • No level changes over the summer
Course Levels and Options • Students recommended for particular group or track based on careful consideration of aptitude and past performance • AP • Honors • College Preparatory • Levels 3 & 4 • Virtual High School • Penn State Courses • Accounting / Business • Computer Science • Engineering • Eastern Center for Arts and Technology • 14 different program options
Grade Point Average (GPA) • Determined by assigning a numerical value to the final letter grade in each subject, calculating the total and dividing by the number of total credits • Examples: 4.00 = A, 3.00 = B, 2.00 = C • Please review the Program of Studies, page 3 • All full and half year courses which meet every day during the regular school day count • NOT included: Asian Cultures, PE / Health, Orchestra • A primary factor in college admission • Determines Rank in Class –UPDATE PENDING!
