  1. UW Micro Technology Lab SEMINAR SERIES TITLE: Study the acoustic characteristics and sound insulations of a FRP material SPEARKER: Mr. Yan-Min Kuo, Visiting Scholar from the Department of Engineering Science and Ocean Engineering, National Taiwan University, Taipei, Taiwan DATE: Nov. 2, 3:30PM PLACE: ME 134 ABSTRACT: Investigating the characteristics of sound propagation in several orthotropic materials will be presented. The Transfer matrix method (TMM) was applied to calculate the sound transmission loss in several orthotropic plates made of fiber reinforce plastics (FRP). Traditionally, the TMM is applied in the isotropic materials. However, here we present a new technique of solving the FRP laminate (an anisotropic material) by combining the wave equation and the TMM. The results from the sound transmission level (STL) of the FRP will also presented. MTL
