  1. Sleeping Sickness - Medicine for Sleeping Sickness, Disorder What is Sleeping Sickness? Sleeping sickness is a life-threatening disease caused by parasite strains. It is also known as human African trypanosomiasis (HAT), is a tropical disease caused by parasites of the Trypanosoma genus. Two subspecies of the parasite, Trypanosoma brucei gambiense and Trypanosoma brucei rhodesiense, are responsible for the disease in humans. Individuals experiencing early stages of sleeping sickness sometimes go undiagnosed. If left untreated, the parasite enters the central nervous system across the blood-brain barrier and continuous to cause advanced stage sleeping sickness. People have neuropsychiatric symptoms such seizures, sleep disturbances, disorientation, and tiredness during this phase. Sleeping sickness is typically fatal if neglected. However, medicine for sleeping sickness depends on the stage of the infection and the specific subspecies of the parasite causing the illness. How do you get Sleeping Sickness?

  2. Insect Bites Transmission from Mother to Child Sexual Contact Medicine for sleep disorder is administered under the supervision of healthcare professionals due to potential side effects and the need for accurate dosing. The late stage of sleeping sickness requires drugs that can penetrate the central nervous system, as the parasites have crossed the blood-brain barrier. What Signs and Symptoms Accompany Sleeping Sickness? Initial Phase General symptoms like weakness and fever An individual may have an advanced stage of the disease for months or even years without experiencing any significant indications or symptoms. Advanced Stage If neglected, symptoms of neurological and behavioral disorders like confusion, drowsiness, and convulsions are typically fatal. How is Sleeping Sickness Diagnosed? Invasive testing is required to confirm a positive result from the rapid diagnostic tests used for community screening. It is usually done to diagnose sleeping sickness. To make a diagnosis, a microscope must be used to confirm the parasite's presence in any bodily fluid, most commonly the lymphatic and blood systems. To find the parasite in spinal fluid, which signifies the advanced stage of the disease, lumbar punctures are painful procedures. Since fexinidazole is a new medication that treats both stages of gambiense sleeping sickness, it may help lower the number of lumbar punctures. If you suspect you or someone else may have sleeping sickness, it is crucial to seek medical attention promptly, as early detection and treatment are essential for a better prognosis.
