  1. Montana Regional Seismograph Network Mike Stickney Montana Bureau of Mines and Geology Earthquake Studies Office ANSS IMW RAC 21 August 2006

  2. Montana Regional Seismograph Network • 34 MBMG telemetered analog stations • 1 MBMG strong-motion + SPZ channel • 47 stations from 9 other networks • Total: 82 stations/167 channels recorded in real time

  3. 82 stations recorded in real-time with Montana earthworm system

  4. 897 analysist-reviewed earthquakes from 1 January – 26 June 2006

  5. Northern Intermountain Seismic Belt 2006 seismicity

  6. Seismograph station (black triangles) coverage of the Dillon earthquake sequence

  7. 5 km Dillon

  8. Recent Accomplishments • QDDS running for automatic solutions • improved automatic coda magnitudes • ML from broadband records • digital recording Butte W-A seismograph • new velocity model and station delays • new and improved web site

  9. Short Comings • No backup coverage during absences in a one-person office • Badly behind on routine event analysis ~500 events in August 2005 ~200 events June 26, 2006 to present • ~ 1 year behind on digital ML analysis • Need to more efficiently analyze network data • Research on network data is sacrificed for the sake of routine analysis and maintenance

  10. Other Issues • Incorporating USArray data into regional network operation • Integrate USGS strong motion instruments into regional network
