SCTCC Parking Shortage.. We Are All Victims!!!!!!
SCTCC Parking The parking provided does not accommodate the population of student and faculty combined. Students have reported being late to class due to the lack of parking available. Safety is also a concern that stems from the parking space shortage. Students are automatically charged for parking in their tuition but that does not guarantee that they will have a spot to park. Not Enough Spaces!!!
Safety Concerns For Students Who Have To Park Off-Campus Crowded parking lots are forcing students to search off-campus to obtain parking. With no security presence available off-campus, especially after dark, there is nothing to stop the chances of theft, property damage, and assaults from occurring.
Students Late Or Absent Because They Were Unable To Find A Parking Spot • 57% of students surveyed reported that they have been late to class as a direct result of being unable to find a vacant parking spot. • Less than 25% of students surveyed said they’ve never used the parking provided at the Whitney Fields. Some students even commented that they’ve actually driven all the way to school only to not be able to find a spot to park, and have opted to skip class rather than park at Whitney Park and be late for class.
Parking Lot Stalking…You may be the next victim!!! 78% of students even report that they would wait in the parking lot for students so they could “stalk” them to where they were parked in order to claim the spot before someone else had the chance.
Possible Solution : Building a New Parking Ramp Structure $6,000,000-$10,000,000
Our Recommended Solution… • Repainting the lines in the parking lot, resizing the spots from 10ft wide to 8ft, giving the students and facility an additional 435 parking spot. • Restricting direction of aisle traffic to one-way would create enough additional space to add on an entire row of parking spots, giving an additional100+ possible spots if laid out to optimize available space.
Summary….. • Our recommendation • Problem -not enough parking provided for students and faculty. • Safety and security for off-campus parkers • Student attendance • Parking lot stalking • Possible alternative but unrealistic option (ramp)
