To read a decimal number : • Read the whole number first. • Put and instead of the decimal point. • Read the number after the decimal point and write the place value of the last digit Example: Read the following number 64 . 175 sixty four and one hundred seventy five thousandths Reading decimal numbersMeans that you have to write the numbers in digits
It means that you have to write the number in letters Example: Write the following number Twenty four and thirty one hundredths 24.31 To write a decimal number

To change from fraction to decimal the denominator must be 10 or 100 or 1000 Ex: = 0.25 What if the denominator is not 10 or 100 or 1000 ? Changing from fraction to decimal
The friends of denominator Famous Fractions 2 × 5 = 10 = 0.5 4 = 0.25 8 = 0.75 = 0.125 = 0.2 Sowe have to use the friends of denominator to change the denominator Ex: = = 0.5
