HeartMate® GoGear™System Components Training P/N 105004.B
Something Old / Something New • What Hasn’t Changed • Pump function / surgical procedure • System Controller operation / alarms • System Monitor operation • Switching to and from AC Power to Batteries / cable connections • Battery exchanges • Emergency Power Pack (EPP) • Display Module • What Has Changed • Power Module in place of Power Base Unit’s (PBU’s) AC and monitor interface functions • Universal Battery Charger in place of PBU’s battery charger function • Two additional battery types (Li-ion/NiMH) with requisite clips • Battery fuel gauges on new battery types • System Controller aesthetics and compatibility
Overview – Power Module The new GoGear System Components are designed to support a patient’s active lifestyle, providing mobility and flexibility in a safe, secure manner. • Flexible Power Source – The Power Module is a portable solution that powers the HeartMate system safely and securely. • One-third the weight of the Power Base Unit (PBU) • Integrated backup battery provides emergency support for up to 30 minutes • Simple, effective light indicators and audio alarms give immediate feedback on system operation • Automobile port offers patients the added convenience of “plugging in” while in the car • Powers the System Monitor and Display Module for system programming and monitoring purposes
Overview – Universal Battery Charger • Mobile Charging Capacity – The Universal Battery Charger is compact and lightweight with rapid charging technology to complement an on-the-go lifestyle. • Weighs only eight pounds – highly portable • Rapid charging minimizes the number of batteries required for excursions – reduces the burden of battery management • Continuous diagnostic testing and automatic calibration delivers consistent battery performance • Intuitive light indicators provide readily-accessible battery status
Overview – Batteries / Clips • Advanced Battery Technology – Light, long-lasting and smart – batteries have been developed specifically for HeartMate patients’ active lifestyles. • Weighs only one pound (14V Li-Ion batteries) • Provides a full work day of support on a single charge (up to 10 hours) • Smart technology affords optimal charging, accurately gauges charge level and ensures battery lifespan (up to three years)
Overview – Smart HM II Controller A new, upgraded HM II system controller is required to operate GoGear System Components. • The upgraded controller has embedded advanced “smart” technology. • These smart controllers have the ability to communicate with the new HeartMate batteries providing accurate fuel gauging during discharge. • Old HM II controllers are not compatible with 14 V Li-ion batteries and clips. • Physical “lock-outs” prevent old HM II controllers from being used with 14V Li-ion battery clips. • Smart controllers may be used with old batteries and clips. • Smart controllers can be identified by new catalog #103696, white strain reliefs, white belt clip and software label: V. 4.12. White belt clip Software label White strain relief
Power Module – Overview The Power Module (PM) performs four primary functions: • Provides electrical power to the LVAS during tethered operation, by connecting to an AC power source • Provides electrical power to the Display Module or System Monitor when either device is connected to the PM and the PM is plugged into AC power • Connects the Display Module / System Monitor to the System Controller for monitoring purposes • Echoes System Controller alarms Four components are required for tethered operation with the PM: 1) the PM itself, 2) a PM patient cable, 3) a PM power cord, and 4) a HeartMate II or XVE System Controller Power Module Patient Cable AC Cord HM II System Controller
