  4. Purpose • not a revelation of John but of Christ to John. While the immediate aim of Revelation was to encourage persecuted Christians then to face the difficulties ahead , its message is for Christians of all times to remain faithful until the end. • Christians to grasp its underlying message Namely that Christ is in ultimate control

  5. Today -Key themes Judgement Rev 20;11-15 • final battle of the enemies of God • Following this John depicts the Great White throne of Judgement when all humanity will be resurrected and brought before God . • The Judgement of God & The Love of God

  6. John 3.16-18 • John 3.16. 16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life.17 “Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. 18 Those who believe in him are not condemned; but those who do not believe are condemned already, because they have not believed in the name of the only Son of God.

  7. 2 New creation- A New Heaven and a New Earth: Rev 21;1-2 • John reveals the believer’s final destiny. A place no longer plagued by sin, evil, death or Satan • 21 ;5- ‘ Behold I make all things new’ – This is the first clear instance of God speaking directly since Rev 1;8 And His message is directed to the whole world.

  8. Holy City • No Temple for the Lord God is its Temple • its Temple is the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb • The City has no need for sun or moon –the Glory of God is its light and its lampis the Lamb who was slain.

  9. Heaven in not the end of all things , but the beginning • CS Lewis , writing in’ The Last Battle’ put it so beautifully; ‘All their life in this world and all their adventures in Narnia had only been the cover and the title page; now at last they were beginning chapter One of the Great Story which no one on earth has read., which goes on forever & ever ,in which every chapter is better than the one before.’

  10. Lessons • Nothing can stop God getting through to us • We are pilgrims on our way to the City of God. Our journey starts the minute we put our trust in Jesus. • That Everything is going to plan; God’s plan • Motive for Evangelism • This hope should be an anchor For the soul • God will rule over a cleansed , healed , and purified new world

  11. Paradise lost is regained • Rev21;3-5“See, the home of God is among mortals. He will dwell with them;they will be his peoples, and God himself will be with them;4 He will wipe every tear from their eyes.Death will be no more;mourning and crying and pain will be no more, for the first things have passed away.” • 5 And the one who was seated on the throne said, “See, I am making all things new.” -- Write this, for these words are trustworthy and true.”
