  1. Career prospects Exprimer un intérêt pour Exprimer un souhait La référence à l’avenir

  2. Exprimer un intérêt pour un sujet • I am fascinated by issues related to language acquisition. • I am most interested in forensic psychology. • Clinical psychology is what I am most interested in. • I’m interested in exploring the link between neuropsychology and music. • I really like / enjoy speaking with people. • I love listening to people. BUT I love to help people prepare a job interview. OU I’d love to learn more about the brain activity through fMRI. • I am particularly fond of biology. / I’m not fond of neuropsychology though it may be necessary to understand mental diseases. • Listening to people and helping them is something that appeals to me. • I find it fascinating / thrilling to see brain scans and to study brain lesions. • I believe that studying criminal behaviors and helping victims cope with their plight is fascinating.

  3. Exprimer le souhait • I wish to go into ‘talk therapy’. I wish I could set up my own business. • I want my job to be interesting. I want to know more about the way our brains process and appraise music. • I would like to become a psychoanalyst / to know (learn) more about psychoanalysis. • I hope one day I shall be a clinician. I hope, one day, I’ll be able to conduct some research abroad / in a foreign country. • I intend to specialize in autism / to work as a child therapist. • I would be very pleased if I could work with prisoners. / I would be particularly glad / happy I could work with very young children. • I am anxious / eager to help children in dire straits. • I find it crucial / essential to help people in distress.

  4. I’d (would) rather start my career in a hospital than set up my own practice. • My goal / aim / dream is to work in a prison. My intention is to become a schoolteacher; I’d rather teach young children aged 3 to 6 than older ones. • One of my long-term projects is to set up a social center targeting families experiencing difficulties with their kids. • Trying to alleviate the pain of people suffering from schizophrenia or other mental disease would be both demanding and fascinating. • I imagine myself / picture myself providing help to job-seekers or trying to find out the perfect applicant for a job. • I still don’t know whether I want to specialize in occupational psychology or social psychology: I am hesitating between becoming a psychologist and working in the field of human resources.

  5. FAIRE REFERENCE AU FUTUR • I WILLdo my best to become a mental health professional. • I’m interviewing children with autism during an internship next month, it’s going to be a unique experience. • All students are to listen to Dr. Kleiman’s conference on bipolar disorder. We are to write an essay on dreams. The results of the investigations are to be published in the British Journal of Psychology. • For the purpose of the investigation, we are going to survey around 320 people with learning disabilities. We’re going to learn how to process data and to deal with statistics. • I’ll revolutionize the way autism people are treated! If, one day, I am a neuropsychologist, I guess I’ll have to keep up with the latest scientific enquiries and discoveries and to keep an eye on new treatments, new measurement techniques; or screening methods. I suppose working with people suffering from mental disorders will be hard but rewarding: one feels useful when one can help people cope with their problems.

  6. Mind the use of tenses in the following sentences: When I graduate / complete my course of studies I’ll set up an association dedicated to improving poor children’s well-being. Before I can become a fully-fledged therapist, I have to graduate and to carry on with my studies.
