  2. Platform of Solutions Our call for entries In 2012, stakeholders from Asia-Pacific region will meet twice to discuss and take action on water resources management : in March in Marseille (France) for the Sixth World Water Forum (WWF) and later at the Second Asia-Pacific Water Summit(APWS) in Bangkok. For these two events, FAO and ESCAP work together on Economic, Food and Water Security, for which they defined a challenging and comprehensive target : “develop a framework for action on water in green growth in support of economic, food and water security, that addresses local, national and regional action”. The two partners are launching a Call for entries to find effective and sustainable solutions to achieve Economic, Food and Water Security within a Green Growth process towards prosperity and equity in Asia Pacific. These promising, existing and innovative solutions would be first uploaded on the 6th World Water Forum Platform of solutions by January 2012, and some of them promoted at these two events. Water is an essential resource and its scarcity will increase in Asia Pacific. Concerns are growing over the threats from climate change across the region. Agriculture is the dominant water user and food demand will increase. FAO and ESCAP are convinced that economic, food and water security, essential for development and green growth, demands new and effective solutions combining prosperity with equity goals and managing multiple risks. Existing solutions are practices that are already being implemented on the ground and that have demonstrated short term (2-5 years) or long-term (>6 years) sustainability. These solutions should demonstrate some form of added value or additional benefit either in the social or economic sectors. Innovative solutions are practices or ideas that are currently emerging and have not been fully implemented on the ground on large scale basis (i.e. those in the research and development stages may apply). These may include forward-looking concepts that enhances existing solutions. Who Can Send Entries? Individuals or organizations (e.g. governmental, non-governmental, civil society, private enterprises, and people’s organizations) from or operating within the Asia Pacific region. Entries from organizations must demonstrate the organizations’ role either in the implementation or conceptualization of existing best practices or innovative concepts and solutions in support of the target. Only one entry can be submitted for each solution. Please list all the partners you worked with for this one solution. Solutions from local governments and line agencies are encouraged.
