The Vision • Provide relevant and engaging professional development for our middle school science teachers • Purchase resources to assist our team leaders with reflection on their personal growth in the areas of inquiry and content knowledge • Establish Professional Learning Communities in each school fostering collaboration among the science staff • Ensure our teachers model safe lab procedures with our students P.O.S.T.

Commitment to actively participate for two years in this project as a POST Team Leader for your school Successfully complete four 2-week summer courses at UNCG Attendance at Quarterly Academies (8) and Biweekly staff meetings, during the 2007/08 and 2008/09 school years Expectations of Teachers

Expectations of Teachers – cont. • Provide data through peer observations, surveys, and content knowledge evaluations throughout the life of the project • Develop, with support of the Project Coordinator, a professional development plan for your school, and a personal professional development plan for your individual classroom based on data from EOG and benchmarks

  15. Benefits of Participation • 12 hours towards a graduate degree from UNCG, with tuition, textbooks, and stipend ($750/course) for courses provided • Free science resources and equipment • Quarterly academies with free resources for all science teachers in your school

  16. Benefits – cont. • Substitutes to visit other science classrooms • Learn Inquiry-Based Instruction methods and deepen content knowledge specific to the NCSCOS for middle school science • Develop leadership skills, and receive support from UNCG, GCS, and your principal throughout the project
