  1. You may like to start your Stand Together for Safety session by showing the 2013 Stand Together for Safety DVD, available for download from: www.standtogetherforsafety.com.au

  2. What is Stand Together for Safety? • The Australian oil and gas industry is holding its fifth annual Stand Together for Safety event in May 2013 • Teams across the country will stop work for two hours on their chosen day in May to talk about improving workplace safety • Stand Together for Safety provides a designated time for CEOs, executives and senior managers to talk directly with frontline workers about safety issues • This emphasises the key message that safety is everyone’s responsibility and it relies on all staff working together.

  3. In 2012 more than 38,000 people from 54 different companies across the industry participated in Stand Together for Safety. You can see a list of participating companies for 2013 on the website: www.standtogetherforsafety.com.au

  4. Let people know where your leaders and senior management are today (or throughout the event) and what they are doing. Your company leadership team should be trying to see as many people as possible throughout the month of May.

  5. Australian oil and gas industry safety performance

  6. In early 2008 the oil and gas industry’s performance deteriorated and a 30% increase in the lost time injury frequency rate occurred, taking it to 1.69 • Since 2009, there have been encouraging signs of improvement: • 2009 LTIFR 1.22 • 2010 LTIFR 0.94 • 2011 LTIFR 0.85 • 2012 LTIFR XXX

  7. In 2011, APPEA and its member companies developed a new safety collaboration strategy to re-invigorate the industry’s drive to becoming a global safety leader and to ensure a clear focus on process safety and prevention of major accident events • In keeping with this strategy, the theme for 2012 Stand Together for Safety was ‘Keeping it contained: What’s your responsibility?’ • Following on from ‘What’s your responsibility?’, our theme for 2013 focuses on ‘Protecting your team: Who are you responsible for?’

  8. Questions and discussion starters • Identify some different types of teams • Who is in your team or teams? • How many teams are you part of? • What is your role in maintaining safety in your team or teams?

  9. Why is it important to protect your team?

  10. Add other questions or topics to generate a discussion about what more could be done to protect your team to maintain a safe workplace.

  11. To make this event a success, we must: • Work together (safety benefits us all) • Be unified in our commitment • Improve our communication between leadership and the workforce • Participate in open and direct dialogue • Everyone: SPEAK UP & GET INVOLVED
