  2. Saber Tooth Facts • The saber tooth tiger is originally called the smilodon which in Greek it means smile. • The saber tooth was one of the smallest carnivores of its time being only 55-100 kg (120-220lbs). • This hunter was located in brazil but it eventually made its way to north America and they say when it got there it began to evolve over time make it larger. Soon it was as large as a Siberian tiger. • At that time it ranged from 160-280kg (350-620lbs) • Over time there were two different types of smilodon. • The s. fatalis and the s. gracilis.

  3. New age of saber tooth • 1 million to 10,000 years ago there had been a new saber tooth which was more powerful and much larger than its cousins. • This saber tooth weighed 360-455kg (790-1000lbs) • With this weight it made it larger than the Siberian tiger and a fiercer hunter.

  4. Skeleton Figure • The s.populator was a large carnivore, which had a short tail muscular legs and very powerful neck and canines. • The s.populator wasn’t e very fast animal nut it was very powerful and was known to be able to take on a full grown bear. • The thing that made it such a excellent hunter was its powerful jaws that could open 120 degrees and that had two massive canines that were 28cm or 11 inches long.

  5. Hunting • Hunting for this species had its ups and downs. The one disadvantage was that it wasn’t fast but its main advantage was its large muscular body and canines that could take down basically anything it hunted. It was mostly be about the size of a full grown lion. It would have more muscular body though. When it would hunt It wasn’t the distant type where it could run after its prey. It was the surprise one where it would have to get really up close.

  6. Habitat • The saber tooth tiger lived in the grasslands. It would live where there was a lot of plants like pine woods where there would be many plant eaters which was what the saber tooth would eat. This creature was feared many due to its ferocious attitude. It would mainly hunt with its pack to bring down a mammoth. Where the saber tooth would live provided a lot of camouflage.
