  1. Update on PSB Wire Scanners simulations Roberto Rocca BE-BI-BL Student Meeting - R.Rocca

  2. Outline • Introduction • Fluence and energy deposition calculations • Response functions • Remarks BE-BI-BL Student Meeting - R.Rocca

  3. Geometry Longitudinal cut Transverse cut 3 mm 50 cm BE-BI-BL Student Meeting - R.Rocca

  4. Geometry and materials Wire: Carbon, 2 g/cm3, diameter 30 um Beam pipe: Stainless steel, 8 g/cm3 Inner diameter 7.4 cm, thickness 1.5 mm Scintillator: Saint-Gobain BC408: polyvinyltoluene, 1.03 g/cm3 Height = 3 cm, diameter = 3 cm Case: Polyethylene, 0.95 g/cm3 Height: 3.5, thickness_r: 3 mm, thickness_h: 5 mm Foil: Aluminum, 2.7 g/cm3; thickness 50 um BE-BI-BL Student Meeting - R.Rocca

  5. Energy deposition • Particles current through boundaries: • Foil 98% • Case 0.6% • Scintillator 1.4% BE-BI-BL Student Meeting - R.Rocca

  6. Energy deposition BE-BI-BL Student Meeting - R.Rocca

  7. Particles fluence BE-BI-BL Student Meeting - R.Rocca

  8. Response Functions • Kinetic energy range: 1e-5 GeV to 1.58 GeV • 10 bins per decade • 42 runs for protons and electrons • 52 runs for photons • 5e5 particles x 5 runs per energy bin BE-BI-BL Student Meeting - R.Rocca

  9. Response Functions BE-BI-BL Student Meeting - R.Rocca

  10. Response Functions BE-BI-BL Student Meeting - R.Rocca

  11. Response Functions BE-BI-BL Student Meeting - R.Rocca

  12. Response Functions • Remark: overestimation by a factor 2 • Point to investigate: • Upper energy boundary above max kinetic energy due to the choice of the binning structure • Need to increase statistics: • Rel error in response functions well above 10% (only for kinetic energy between 2 MeV – 15 MeV) • Rel error in fluenc e calculations BE-BI-BL Student Meeting - R.Rocca
